Should be another close game, and a big game for both teams. A St. David win would put them in great shape towards securing the #2 overall seed heading into the D8 playoffs. As for Resurrection, their remaining schedule looks great on paper with St. Benedict and Rockway --- so they could still have hopes of a home playoff game should they win today (by 6+ points).

There should be no issues here for the Mustangs, who with a win can overtake Resurrection for third place (for the time being, anyways) should the Phoenix also lose to St. David this afternoon.

Top "AAAA" Teams To Be Challenged This Weekend
Both Brantford St. John's (my current #1 AAAA ranked club) and Waterloo CI (#2) will be travelling again to Hamilton, this time to participate in the SOSI tournament.
The tournament format is such that teams play two games in pool play, with the top 2 teams in each pool advancing to the quarterfinals. The bottom team in each pool advances to the consolation bracket.
That said, it definitely isn't a knock to be the bottom team in your pool at this tournament, especially given the level of competition. Consider that of the 6 teams that make up the pools that St. John's and WCI will be competing in, ALL of them were ranked among the top 16 overall teams in Ontario!
St. John's (Ontario #2) will be competing in "Pool B" with Ancaster Bishop Tonnos (Ontario #7) and Amherstberg, Ontario's General Amherst SS (Ontario #16).
WCI (Ontario #9) are in Pool C with St. Thomas More of Hamilton (Ontario #4) and Tecumseh St. Anne SS (Ontario #6).
Both teams play their first game at 3:00pm on Friday ---- WCI versus St. Thomas More (at Westdale); St. John's will play Bishop Tonnos at St. Mary's.
Meanwhile, the Kitchener St. Mary's Eagles (#3 in my last AAAA CWOSSA ranking), will be travelling to the GTA to participate in the Centennial (College) Colts Classic.
Things will be difficult to start for the Eagles, as they do battle with the top-ranked school out of the GTA, Notre Dame (Ajax) at 11:30am on Friday.
Their second round opponent will be either Brampton Campion or Senator O'Connor SS, who are both "top 15 teams" in the GTA.

Brantford Expositor: Trojans Defense Stymies Mustangs' Shooters

Brantford Collegiate Institute Mustangs know what they must do to have success against the North Park Collegiate Trojans.
However, executing the game plan is another matter.
"They (Trojans) played good defence on us today," said BCI's point guard Jacqueline Jamula after the Trojans defeated the Mustangs 46-39 in a Brant County high school senior girls basketball game Tuesday night at North Park.
"We had trouble getting open."
The Mustangs are most effective when they get the ball in the low post area to either of the Candy twins, Tori or Spencer, and Claudia DiFrancesco.
The Trojans used the tight defensive play of their guards and the height and power of their forwards to block BCI from getting the ball inside for most of the game.
It was the second meeting of the season between the teams in league play, with BCI winning the first game by six points. North Park's seven-point win Tuesday will give the Trojans home-court advantage in a best-of-three semifinal if the teams finish the regular-season schedule with identical won-loss records.
There's also a chance the Mustangs and Trojans will face each other in the Central Western Ontario Secondary Schools Association's AAA championship tournament.
"We'll have to come out hard, run our offence all the way through and make more cuts," said Jamula of future meetings with the Trojans.
"We'll have to reverse the ball more. We work the ball one way but we've got to reverse it and make the defence move around more."
Guard Reo Roland was outstanding for the Trojans as she scored 13 points. Laura Chapple, also a guard, got nine points. Forwards Jenny Howell scored eight points and Cassie Fletcher netted seven.
Although guard Allyson DeLorenzi scored only five points, her tight defensive play was extremely important for North Park to score the victory.
The Mustangs cut North Park's lead to 33-30 when the Trojans began to assert themselves.
North Park scored seven consecutive points, including a three-pointer by DeLorenzi, which seemed to float in from nowhere.
"We just needed to get focused," Roland said of North Park's seven-point splurge.
"We knew what we should be doing, running our offence properly and playing strong defence, helping each other out."
Roland, a Grade 11 student with an academic average in the 90s, is looking forward to meeting with the Mustangs at CWOSSA.
"If we play hard like we did today, we should have good results there," said Roland, who also stars in soccer, badminton, volleyball, cross-country and track and field.
North Park defeated BCI 46-21 in the junior game.
Abbey Johnston scored 14 points for the junior Trojans. Kirsten Sowa and Abbey Sales each got 10 points. Lexis Lancaster scored seven points for BCI. Baylen Vachon and Cora Humeniuk each scored four points.
St. John's College Green Eagles swept a doubleheader from the Assumption College Lions.
St. John's won 43-23 in junior and 66-36 in senior.
Lauren Dubois scored 10 points for the junior Eagles. Bridget Monkman got seven and Rebekah Dabor six. Sarah Harris scored 12 points for Assumption. Alex Vandyk and Caitlyn Wallace each got four points.
Kelly VanLeeuwen scored 20 points for the senior Eagles. Rachel Cleary scored 10 points and rebounded well on the defensive backboard. Shawni Hnatiuk and Deidre McDermid each got seven points. Meaghan Hanley scored 13 points for the Lions. Stephanie Vandyk and Rebekah Couperus scored six points apiece.
Pauline Johnson Collegiate took a doubleheader from Paris District High School.
PJC won the junior 27-20 and the senior 38-26.
Point-scorers weren't reported for the junior game.
Krista Riimand, Brittany Hughes and Chelsea Biggs each scored nine points for the PJC Thunderbirds in the senior game. Emma Perry got seven points for the Paris Panthers. Deven Knill got six points and Julia Hmiel five points.

The Falcons are getting along just fine without Jaime Janssen, as (barring any upsets) they essentially clinch 2nd place overall in the D10 league with a big win over the JF Ross Royals. Erica McFadden led the way with 18 points, while Chelsea Riepert added 16 for the Falcons. Sydney Resch put home 15 for Ross, while Kayla Van De Kemp added in 8.
GCVI 53, Orangeville 18

Lindsay Thompson had a season-high 25 points for the Gaels on Tuesday afternoon as they posted a comfortable win over the ODSS Bears. Orangeville was led by Tori Quinn (9) and Meagan Doyle (8).

The Celtics stay undefeated with a win over the St. James Lions. Andrea Priamo had 15 and Rebecca Keil 14 for Bishop Mac, while Erica Zen contributed 14 and Jade McGarr scored 13 for St. James.

The Crusaders sweep the season-series from Centennial, thanks in part to three players in double-digits: Kiera Bunnaman (14); Claire Endicott (13) and Melinda McNeice (10). CCVI got 15 from Charlotte Clarke, 14 from Courtney Whiteside and 6 from Tamika Grant-Esco.

An entertaining, high scoring game that featured six players in double figures! For GCVI, Katie Strongman (16), Jamie Young (13) and Cally Strongman (12); and for ODSS, Claire Fenton (28), Evelyn Burgess (12) and Maddison Brattan (10).

The Falcons get their first league win at home over the Royals. Chloe Trapp (9) and Madison Fennell (8) led the way, while JFR was topped by Caleigh Cargo-Froom with 6.

No trouble for the Crusaders here as they stay in 2nd place overall. Victoria Brombal (12) and Monica Trimble (10) led the way for Lourdes, while the Spartans were topped by a 14-point effort from Hannah Ferguson.

WCSSAA: Senior Girls Tuesday Results
The Grand River Renegades did themselves a huge favour (as a commenter suggested they might) by knocking off the Bluevale Knights at home, 52-37. The Rens are an interesting, and possibly dangerous team going forward as they tend to play to the level of their opposition (i.e. single digit loss vs. Cameron Hts., single digit win against Forest Hts.). Definitely a team I'm sure others would like to avoid in the qualifying round of the playoffs.
Here's the rundown of action:

The Rens received 26 from Aileen MacLellan en route to the aforementioned victory over BCI. Elissa Dent was tops for the Knights with 14 points.

A high-scoring affair, this contest had 4 players in total with 18 or more points ---- for Cameron, Erin Robbins (22) and Liz McLellan (18); for Forest Heights, Jocelyn Keeso and Blair McNaughton each had 20.

The Rebs get a scare from the Lancers, but held them off in the end. Michelle Hudyn led ECI with 16, while Erika Gardner chipped in 8 to help get the job done. Cassey Brubacher had 11 for the Lancers, while Kaitie Martin scored 8.

Another excellent game for Liz Phillips, who led Galt with 18 points in this one. Sarah Couchman topped the JHSS scoring on Tuesday with 7.

The Raiders improve to 8-1 on the campaign by handling the Panthers down in Cambridge. Kate McTavish (15) and Susan Gordon (8) were tops for KCI; Nikea Worrell had a game-high 16 for Preston while Kirsten Leach added in 6.

My Pick: WCI
The Vikes continue to rule the WCSSAA senior circuit after a near 30-point win over the Highlanders. Alex Klein and Julia Pavlik had 13 each for the Vikes, who can be led in scoring on any given night by almost anyone on their roster. Malena McCrossan and Bronwyn Stevens scored 8 each for SJAM.

The Sabres do themselves a favour with a key road win at WODSS. Nicole Barnard led the way with a solid 17 point effort, while Alex Palvetzian added in 5. The Crusaders were topped by Shannon Finn and Carly Kowalik, with 6 each.

WCSSAA Junior Girls: Lancers, Knights, Hawks All Still Unbeaten
Here's a recap of the action:
Elmira 57, Eastwood 16
The Lancers moved to 9-0 with a big win over Eastwood. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this is the best start ever for Elmira? Regardless, Krista Weins (13) and Emilie Mechler (10) were tops on this day for EDSS; Megan Karai led the Rebels with 6 while Lori Stankiewicz and Laura Martinez had 4 each.
Bluevale 43, Grand River 32
The Knights got a bit of a challenge from the home court Rens but were too much in the end, thanks in part to 22 points from Hannah Fishbein. Ana Milanovic was the lone GRCI player in double digits, with 10 points.
Glenview Park 32, Huron Heights 31
Absolutely huge win for the Panthers as it helps them "almost" lock up a playoff berth with 3 games remaining. Jocelyn Kivell was again the top scorer for them with 11, while her teammate Paige Hollihan added in 6. Emily Bidinosti had 9 for HHHS.
Jacob Hespeler 42, Galt 22
The Hawks are the third team at 9-0 on the season, with an easy win over winless Galt CI. Emma Sleeper and Brooklyn Wright had 10 each for the winners, while Ashlyn Beckman led Galt and all scorers with 13.
Preston 39, KCI 21
The Panthers continue to roll, improving to 7-2 on the season. Ashley White had 13 on this night for PHS, with Aubrey Formica chipping in with 10. Kelsey Dawe led the Raiders with 10, while KCI's star scorer, Christiana Koebel, was held to 6.
WCI 42, SJAM 29
The Vikes pick up their second win on the season (and second in a row for that matter) with a win against their cross-Waterloo rivals. It also marked the first time that they have scored more than 35 points during a WCSSAA game (last Thursday - 35), so perhaps they're starting to find their offensive touch. Maggie Birch (15), Misha Singh (10) and Brittany Scarrow (7) were top scorers for the Vikes, while the 'Landers were led as usual by Jillian Reiter with 12. Julia Deakin (9) and Sam Fowler (6) were the other SJAM scorers of note.

The Crusaders keep in the hunt for a first-round bye with an impressive home win against SSS. A balanced scoring attack featured Becca Payne (11), Mallory Kropf (10) and Madison Horst (9). Kayleigh Hutt-Taylor led the Sabres with 14.

With Lourdes' injuries, this is essentially a toss-up in my opinion. I'll take the Crusaders today.

This game is extremely important, as the winner will likely have home-court advantage in a possible semi-final game (should these clubs finish 2nd and 3rd). Though Jaime Janssen is out for the Falcons, CWDHS did play well without her against Bishop Mac. I'll take CW to continue Ross' struggles against teams named "Falcons" (CWDHS or OSCVI) this season.

Though the WCSSAA website has "PHS vs WCI", process of elimination says that it will be SJAM taking the court against the Vikes today. Oh, and WCI should improve to 9-0 today as well.

Provided they don't have a "tournament hangover" after a strong outing this past weekend, look for the Rebels to take this one on the road.

The Ghosts should get a big win today and improve their positioning in a muddled group of WCSSAA teams in the standings.

A Cameron win coupled with a Preston loss would virtually secure a first-round bye for the Gaels. I think they'll do their part, anyways, on the road today.

Kailtyn Schneck had a game-high 18 points for SMHS, while Shelby Dixon contributed 7 in the win. For Rez, Janelle Santi (12) and Jaqui Rodrigues (8) led the way.
The other D8 game on Monday was a very-low scoring affair, with only 32 combined points. The St. Benedict Saints were able to get back into the playoff hunt with a 26-6 win over Rockway. Alysha Grosz had 10 for the Saints, while Alex Hood had 4 of Rockway's 6 points.

Senior Girls: OSCVI posts big win over JF Ross
The Falcons led by 13 minutes with 2:00 to play and were able to hold off a furious Ross rally at the end of the game to secure the win.
Jocelyn Anderson led the way with 15 points, while Erika French added 13 points and 10 rebounds. Sarah Mitchell (8) and Carrie Davenport (8) were the other top scorers for OSCVI.
In the tournament semifinals, the Falcons dropped a 54-35 decision to Hamilton Cathedral, despite another 15-point outing from Anderson.
They would go on to drop the bronze game to the host St. Joan of Arc CSS squad, 58-37. French, Anderson, and Audrey Liskauskas combined for 27 points.
D8 Monday: Look for Eagles to Stay Perfect

Pick: SMHS
I see no reason to go against the St. Mary's Eagles in this one. They appear to be getting stronger as the season goes along. Of course, this is a rivalry game, so might be closer than first glance --- but the Eagles play extremely well at home.
Rockway (0-6) at St. Benedict (1-5)
Pick: SBCSS
The Saints should get back into the playoff race with a much-needed win at home today against the Rockway Flames.
Junior Girls: Lions Prove Themselves Among Ontario's Elite
That said, this was anything but an "ordinary" tournament.
The Lions travelled to the GTA to participate in the JC Richardson (Ajax) Junior Girls Tournament, which featured arguably the best team in Ontario (Notre Dame - Ajax) and a team that many would probably put in their top ten (Ajax Pickering). The schools have a rich basketball history, and Notre Dame's senior girls' team is currently seen as one of the top 3 in the province.
The Lions got off to a great start against Oshawa's Eastdale SS in the opening round, cruising to a 51-21 win. 12 of 13 St. James players hit the scoresheet, with Brittany Gazzola leading the way (10). Keely McVicar and Chelsey Gazzola had 8.
In the semifinals, St. James came up against the aforementioned Lady Cougars of Ajax Notre Dame, who were undefeated in league and tournament play heading into the contest. Although Notre Dame had a slight edge in overall athleticism, the Lions made up that difference with their solid three-point shooting ---- especially from the Gazzola sisters. Chelsey Gazzola had a season-high 32 points, including 5 three-pointers. Brittany Gazzola pumped in 26 points, as the Lions went on to an impressive 73-66 win. Sierra Rutherford also added 8 points for the Lions.
It didn't get much easier in the finals, as the Lions went up against Ajax Pickering High School. However, ten three-pointers helped push St. James to a 56-46 win and the tournament championship. Chelsey Gazzola had 18 points (5 three-pointers) while Brittany Gazzola knocked in 17. Ashley Benham and Keely McVicar had 8 points each as well for St. James.
