EDSS edged out the Kincardine District Secondary School senior girls basketball team in Saturday’s championship game. GDCI of Goderich won last year’s tournament.

The Knights opened the tournament with a lopsided win over Walkerton District Secondary School. KDSS led that game 10-4 after the first quarter at 21-5 at the half. Kincardine then beat Wellington Heights Saturday morning in the other round robin game.

The annual tournament is held by KDSS in order to prepare for the Bluewater Athletic Association (BAA) regular season, which begins in two weeks. KDSS should have a strong club, with veteran players like Kait McDonnell, Marissa Jolley, Carly Schmidt, Megan Lowry, Lauren Reay and Margot Treidlinger. Coach Vince Yenssen’s team also includes Jenna Rees, Natalie Melick, Faith Mwasalla, Grace Small and Chloe Miller.

This year’s Knights Classic was smaller than in past years. Only four teams played in this year’s tourney – Elmira, Wellington Heights, KDSS and WDSS.
