D8 Wednesday: Celtics, Eagles, Phoenix Continue Winning Ways in Senior

After D8 Senior Girls' play concluded on Wednesday afternoon, three of the league's teams found themselves with 2-0 records, while the other three are sitting at 0-2.

Interestingly enough, the streak could continue next Monday when each game again features an undefeated club against a winless team.

Here's a shakedown of Wednesday's senior results:

Resurrection 47, Rockway 10
My Pick:  RCSS by 39
No trouble for the Phoenix as they eased past RMC on the road.  Rookies Celia McGlynn and Kelsey Caza had 9 each for Rez, while Courtney Brubacher led Rockway with 5.

St. Mary's 45, St. Benedict 30
My Pick:  SMHS by 10
Beth Zebib notched 16 while Angela Mercurio, back on the basketball court after a year off to focus on track, had 12 as the Eagles defeated the Saints.  Dana Milani (15) and Kayla Leusink (9) were the Saints' top scorers.

St. David 44, Woodland 15
My Pick:  SDCSS by 15
A couple of former key contributors for the St. David junior team led the way for the Celts on Wednesday, with Bobbi-Sue Hentges notching 13 points and Heather Sandall adding 12.  Kirsten Hofstee again led Woodland, with 6.

Junior
On the junior side, we're only 2 games into the season, but it would appear as though Resurrection and St. Benedict have established themselves as the clear frontrunners in the race for the D8 crown.

Here's Wednesday's results:

Resurrection 56, Rockway 9
The Resurrection Phoenix continued their strong offensive start to the season, thanks to 11 points from Meghan Sharp and 9 from Krissia Vasquez.  Katarina Klassen and Danika Morrison notched 3 each for Rockway.

St. Benedict 45, St. Mary's 18
Afifa Salaad outscored the Eagles on Wednesday by pouring in 20 points; Laura Ivits and Julia Mascarenhas added 6 each for SBCSS.  Nicole Rabak was tops for St. Mary's with 6.

Monsignor Doyle 42, PRDG 14
Victoria Barroso poured in 19 while Emily Van Allen contributed 9 for the 'Stangs, who improved to 1-1 at the expense of the Chevaliers.  Camélie Belzile-Lepalme had 6 to lead PRDG.
