The Peninsula Shores Phoenix took home the first-ever CWOSSA basketball title for a Wiarton-based high school, edging Kincardine DSS 18-16 in a defensive battle on their home floor.
Peninsula Shores opened in 2006, replacing Wiarton DSS. Neither school had tasted CWOSSA basketball victory until yesterday afternoon.
The Phoenix took care of Kitchener Rockway, 35-23, in the first semifinal while Kincardine toppled Valley Heights by a 57-13 score.
On the senior side, Kincardine DSS, who dropped down to "A" classification this year, took their first CWOSSA title home in eleven years (2003 - "AA") with a 32-24 win over three-time defending champion Walkerton DCS.
The Knights will advance to "A" OFSAA which is being played in the Cornwall area.
Semifinals earlier on Thursday saw Kincardine defeat Waterford 35-11, and Walkerton edge Woodland Christian, 27-22.
