There was a time when the St. Mary's Eagles liked to play a "first team to 40 wins" type of game.
Given the athletic talent now at the school, it's getting hard to remember those days.
More athleticism has come their way with the recent announcement that St. Mary's has accepted transfer Tyrick Thompson (Alex's younger brother) who previously played at Hamilton SJAM to the school for second semester. As of posting, no word on his potential basketball eligibility at this point.
Thompson, who is in grade 10, will join his former SJAM teammate, Jermaine Lyle (who transferred prior to this school year), on the SMHS hardwood. Lyle is virtually a lock to make the D8's 1st team all-star list.
With Mike Blumel also in grade 10 and a solid core of grade 11s from last year's D8 champion and CWOSSA silver medalist squad, the future should be bright at SMHS over the next couple of seasons.
