The Bishop Mac Celtics had a tough task in yesterday's final at the Orillia "Blackball" 16-team tournament.
The Celtics trailed Barrie Central by as many as 21 points (and were down 15 at halftime). However, they played an inspired brand of basketball in the second half, clawed themselves back in the game and ended up winning by 6.

CWOSSAbasketball.com's top 15 of the last decade (*) - #14 Nathan Samuel, Assumption
Assumption PG Nathan Samuel was a solid performer in the D5 league over the past years. He largely flew under the radar, but was often regarded as one of the top guards in CWOSSA (and even Ontario).
The speedy 5'10" PG got a quick taste of success in his career as (in grade 9) he was moved up to Assumption's Senior roster for the 2005 AAA OFSAA championships. The Lions were actually ranked #1 in the tournament, but settled for a bronze medal.
Aside from city championships, Samuel didn't taste a CWOSSA championship (which perhaps might have put him higher in my rankings); however, that's not to say that Assumption didn't have some very good teams.
He was a consistent 20 point scorer and hit 30+ a few times as well.
Brock University recognized his talents and added him to their 2009 recruiting class. As a freshman, he's currently averaging about 7 minutes and 2.0 PPG for game for the Badgers.

CWOSSAbasketball.com's top 15 of the Last Decade (*) - #15 Bobby Colorado/Ian Harriette
Decided to make this a co-"nod" for the 15th spot on my list.
Both had tremendous performances at least 4 years ago that are still discussed today. In my opinion, it's enough to earn these guys a mention.
T-15: Bobby Colorado, Grand River CI
Colorado, a GRCI grad (older brother of Jose & Adam) had a stellar career during his five years at Grand River. He was a good defender, consistent scorer, and flew a bit under the radar as a result of being teammates with Imad Qahwash. Still, he was a WCSSAA all-star calibre player in his own right.
Colorado and his Rens finished 2nd (to KCI) at the 2006 CWOSSA championship---advancing them to AAAA OFSAA. At that OFSAA tournament here locally in Waterloo, Colorado and his 15th ranked (of 16) Grand River Renegades had a very tough task in the opening round against the 5th ranked Toronto West Hill Warriors.
Colorado played what might be one of the more memorable games in CWOSSA history by pumping in 37 points and keeping his Renegades either ahead or slightly behind throughout the game ---- I don't think the lead for either team reached double digits at any time. As former Record HS reporter Josh Brown said, "Colorado was unconscious" that game.
Down the stretch, and with the local pro-Renegade crowd in a frenzy, the more athletic Warriors outplayed the tired Renegades and ended up avoiding the shocking upset and escaping by a 61-55 final.
To this day, it seems to be something that gets brought up locally every time OFSAA rolls around.
Colorado ended up attending the University of Waterloo, but elected not to go out for the basketball team.

Speaking of legendary performances, Ian Harriette's 2003 CWOSSA run has to go down as one of the greatest CWOSSA performances in history.
In those days, the tournament was an "8 team" tournament with teams being ranked and playing accordingly (1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, etc.).
Harriette's Saints were ranked #6 at the AAAA tourney, and as such earned a first-round date with #3 WCI (featuring a talented roster that included a couple of grade eleven rookies by the names of Jaan Montgomery, Gavin Horne, etc.).
Long story short (and I don't have the individual stats), the Saints pulled off that upset thanks in part to a tremendous individual effort by Harriette. And he wasn't done there. In the semifinal, against #2 Centennial (?) Harriette was lights out again en route to a Saints victory ---- and, in the process, earning them the first ever D8 AAAA OFSAA basketball berth.
The Saints would lose the CWOSSA final to a very talented KCI squad that year, though Harriette did keep it interesting until the Raiders pulled away late for an eleven point victory. Harriette's place in history, however, was solidified.
The upstart St. Benedict squad ended up heading to OFSAA at the bottom of the totem pole as a #18 seed. Although their OFSAA experience was unremarkable (they lost their second game by about 50 to #3 Cathedral), making it to that stage was quite an accomplishment and something that shows the guys playing today that if you get hot at the right time, anything can happen!
FYI - Harriette went on to play several years with Niagara College in Welland.

Going to be starting this new column up here today. We'll continue with the "best GYM in CWOSSA" poll simultaneously as well, as I know a few people have been anxiously awaiting that.
To go over the ground rules:
1. This segment will generally appear about every second day or so. I figure there's about a month to CWOSSA, so if we follow that we should be wrapping this up the CWOSSA weekend.
2. Eligibility --- you have to have played the majority of your high school years in CWOSSA (apologies to Murphy Burnatowski & Bryson Johnson --- though I will continue to update all on their progress in my alumni updates....).

3. Note the asterisk in the title - the "past decade" generally includes about 2003 and on. Reasoning for this: #1 - switch to 4 years of high school (and changing of junior/senior age eligibility) and #2 - I was in the States between 2001-2003 so my knowledge of that time isn't the greatest.
3. Current players that would make this list (re: Stefan Cvrkalj) are not eligible as their careers are still in progress. Just so we're comparing apples with apples.
4. Keep in mind this is my ranking, and as such is just one guy's opinion......it should be fun though.
5. I'm basing this upon high school careers, and not what may (or may not) have transpired afterwards.

SJAM's Robinet commits to University of Waterloo
Congratulations go to athletic 6'7" forward Jake Robinet from Waterloo SJAM, who has reportedly committed to the University of Waterloo Warriors.
Robinet, a second-team WCSSAA all-star last season (and a likely first-teamer this year) becomes the latest local product to stay at home.
In addition, Robinet will become the first ever SJAM Highlander to suit up for the program.
UW head coach Tom Kieswetter mentioned that "we're really excited about Jake and hope to have commitments from a few other local players over the next few weeks."

On the Recruiting Trail: Women
Two former CWOSSA stars (via NEDA) have recently signed on with NCAA Division I schools.
Natalie Achonwa, a 6'3" forward who spent time at Centennial CVI in Guelph before heading over to the NEDA program, has signed with Notre Dame.
As a 16 year old, Achonwa made the National Women's Senior team, and has widely been regarded as the best prospect in Canada.
ESPN Hoopgurlz (May 2009 evaluation) on Achonwa...
"Big-time wing prospect with a pro-ready body in high school. Fundamental skills are top notch as is her basketball I.Q. What she lacks in lateral foot speed she makes up for with smarts and strength. She passes the ball well, even off the dribble, she has poise with the ball and can knock down long range jumpers. Canadian players are not currently included in the ESPN HoopGurlz Hundred, but competes in line with U.S. players in the top 25."
Meanwhile, another 6'3" forward, Jenn Lennox (who played in the past with Forest Heights in Kitchener) has signed on with Canisius College, a D-I school just across the border in Buffalo.
As Golden Griffins head coach Terry Zeh notes on the website release, "at 6-foot-3 with a 6-foot-7 wingspan, Jen is a difficult matchup as she can post up and play on the perimeter,” Zeh said. “We’re looking forward to taking advantage of those skills and using her in a variety of ways.”

Alumni: Kotsopoulos Leads Catamounts into National Rankings
Thanks in part to WCI graduate May Kotsopoulos, the University of Vermont Catamounts found themselves in the national rankings for the first time in 17 seasons.
The Catamounts were ranked #24 in the nation in last week's poll. Aside from Kotsopoulos, they feature a roster that includes five other players from Ontario.
Kotsopoulos is currently averaging 18.4 PPG, which ranks 1st in her conference and 33rd in the country.
Scoring is one thing, but she is also a terrific defender----having been named to the America East All-Defensive team three consecutive years (including the Defensive Player of the Year in 2007-08).

Alumni: Qahwash's Aggressive Style Paying Dividends
Guard Imad Qahwash (Grand River '06) led his Central Arkansas Bears in scoring this weekend despite scoring just one field goal.
Confused? Don't be. Qahwash has an uncanny knack for getting to the line for a point guard --- he attempted 16 free throws on Saturday (making 11) and scored 13 points in total, albeit in a 68-53 loss to McNeese State.
Qahwash has been getting to the line regularly as of late and actually attempts more free throws per game than he does field goals. He is one of only 5 Division I players that can say that they fall into that category.
The Bears are in their final year of the "transition" phase from NCAA Divsion II. In other words, they won't be eligible for postseason play this season --- but they will be next year when Qahwash is a senior.
Speaking of their past, alumni Scottie Pippen was back in town last week to have his number retired by UCA during halftime of the game between UCA and Nicholls State. In the photo attached at right, Pippen is seen giving a pre-game talk to the Bears (Qahwash is the closest player seated).
UCA (7-12, 1-4 in Southland Conference Play) ended up winning that game 64-50 before a record crowd at the Ferris Center of 5,297.
Alumni: MacDonald Cracks 1000 Points in Win
Wilfrid Laurier guard Jesse MacDonald (Brantford Assumption) cracked the 1000 point barrier for his career over the weekend in a 73-57 victory over Laurier's cross-town rival, the Waterloo Warriors.
MacDonald scored 21 points for Laurier, and his career total now stands at 1,015.
A couple other CWOSSA guys for Waterloo also hit double figures in the contest --- Cam McIntyre (KCI) led Waterloo with 22 points, while Dave Burnett (Rockway) had 10.

Clarification regarding Players of the Week
My "players of the week" are league-based awards (i.e. WCSSAA/D8/D10), and as such are based upon league performances.
Of course, if a player has an outstanding tournament note that can be mentioned as well, I will obviously add it in.

ACMT and Bluevale have already played (at the SOSI) with ACMT coming away with a 71-36 victory.
Martingrove (Southwood's opponent) is one of the few teams that have beaten Carr this year and are currently a top-ten team in the GTA.
Centennial might have the best shot of picking up a first-day win for CWOSSA against St. Anne's, who aren't as strong this year as in years previous --- but are still a dangerous team. St. Anne's was the #15 seed last year at AAAA OFSAA, while Centennial was the #16 seed.
If CCVI & SJAM both win or both lose their first round games, we'd get a second-round matchup between my current #2 and #4 CWOSSA teams ---- could be interesting!

With some good drives and defence, Russell knocked home 20 points against rival St. Mary's to help give Resurrection a 49-46 victory.

The two teamed up in the waning moments of their Wednesday game against Rez, with Geng hitting the winning three-ball at the buzzer. Lance scored 12 points (including 3 threes himself) while efficiently running the Eagle offense.
With some good drives and defence, Russell knocked home 20 points against rival St. Mary's to help give Resurrection a 49-46 victory.

"Hustle and Flow"
What makes an all-star? That's the million-dollar question with no one set answer. When it comes to basketball, athletic talent and success are usually the biggest factors. But in a poll of the Norfolk County High School Basketball League coaches, another factor came to the fore -- heart.
With a final look back on the fall senior girls basketball season, here are the most dedicated, hard working, tenacious, driven and, yes, talented players to grace the Norfolk hardcourt.
STEPHANIE POTTS SIMCOE SABRES
Potts helped engineer the Sabres to the league championship with her ability to read the play, slick passing and knack for finding an open shooter. As the captain of the Sabres, Potts led by example by playing at a high level all season long.
LISA WALL VALLEY HEIGHTS BEARS
The Bears felt like they hit the jackpot when Wall transferred from Delhi. "She demonstrated leadership throughout the season and fit in with her new team from day one," said Bears coach Jill Clapdorp. "She also has a tremendous amount of talent. Lisa is a strategic player who knows the game and has the skills to lead a team. She was an invaluable addition to our roster."
MEGHAN BRUYN HOLY TRINITY TITANS
A pure basketball talent, Bruyn runs the floor with confidence and ease. She's been a key cog in the Titans engine, helping the team reach multiple finals in her years as a starter. Not only does Bruyn take command of the floor with the best of them, she's also a shooting threat.
AMANDA REANEY SIMCOE SABRES
There isn't a coach in the league that wouldn't love to have Reaney on their roster. Whether its shooting, hustling on defence or ball handling, the Sabres dynamo can do it all. No one was happier when the Sabres won the NSSAA title, and it's tough to argue that anyone was more deserving either.
LINDSAY ENSMINGER HOLY TRINITY TITANS
When the Titans have needed a big shot or play over the last three seasons, they've looked to Ensminger. The versatile player handles the ball as well as any point guard, and has the ability to sink teams with sharp shooting and pinpoint passing.
BEKHA LITTLEWOOD WATERFORD WOLVES
As shown in the past, Littlewood has a deadly shot, and can score from anywhere. Combined with her athletic abilities, the Wolves point guard is a handful for any opposing defence.
ALIA MCINTOSH DELHI RAIDERS
A mainstay in the Raiders lineup in recent years, McIntosh enjoyed maybe her finest of seasons in her last go 'round. The speedy and agile guard seems to always find a way to get it done, and was the focal point of the Raiders offence.
SUSIE WALL VALLEY HEIGHTS BEARS
Wall has been a constant on the Bears in recent years, and enjoyed on of her finest campaigns this fall. Wall served as one of the leaders on a Bears squad packed with talent, and was a consistent contributor.
ANNESSA CASIER HOLY TRINITY TITANS
Casier meant as much to the Titans as any other first-year starter in the league. Her size alone was tough for opposing teams to deal with. So too was her rapid improvement at both ends of the floor.
KRISTIN CLENDINNING SIMCOE SABRES
As a first year senior, Clendinning made an immediate impact with the senior Sabres, which was evident in the NSSAA Championship, when she went three-of-four from the foul line. Clendinning was clutch all year, and brings a wealth of athletic ability to the table.

WCSSAA Senior: Vikes Handle Sabres for 9th Win
The WCI Vikings are slowly becoming my arch nemesis.
Responsible for a large number of my incorrect pick selections, the Vikings continued that trend on Thursday by defeating Southwood 58-50. The Vikes got 20 points from Alex Copp in the win, while Greg Marjerrison connected for 15 for SSS.

No trouble for the Highlanders here as they set up a battle for 2nd with the Vikes. Ben Reyhani (27) led all scorers, while Connor Paddock (13) and Joel Perkins (10) were the Hawks in double digits.

Another tight one for the Rens, but they come away with the win. Osama Qahwash had another solid effort for GRCI with 28 points, while Brodi Verbiski added 17. Leon Vilayseng had 14 for Galt.

The Raiders double up the Rebels who have had trouble finding the basket at times this season. Darnell Simpson was the lone player in double figures with 10 KCI points. Steffon Heyliger led ECI with 8.

Looks like the Knights got the memo about Elmira, and never let them stick around. Stefan Cvrkalj (19) and Drew Ballak (16) were top scorers in the blowout. Scott Albrecht replied with 14 for EDSS.

No sign of Mr. Arezina in the leading scorers, but Cameron still gets the win thanks to 15 from Nebojsa Djeric and 13 from Amjed Osman. Jeff Robinson had 15 for Preston.

4th place FHCI has Cameron and Bluevale left --- will likely lose at least to BCI.
5th place KCI should leapfrog FHCI and get a first round bye with Huron Hts & JHSS left on their schedule (a combined 4-16).
Currently tied for 6th place, SSS should ALSO leapfrog Forest Heights for 5th (due to head to head win). Like KCI, The Sabres also have JHSS & Huron Heights.
Cameron could even knock the Trojans all the way down to 7th with a head-to-head win on February 9th!
Meanwhile, Preston (GPSS & GCI) should be able to overtake Grand River (BCI & CHCI) for 8th and get a home playoff game.
As for the battle for the final spots, it's a bit too far away to tell yet.....a couple huge games still to play between the teams battling it out including: Galt/Elmira, Elmira/GPSS, ECI/WODSS, etc.

The JHSS Hawks are on a roll.
The Hespeler crew has won 5 of 6 games in January and now has a first round bye within their grasp.
Jacob's high powered offense downed SJAM by a 71-58 final last night. Jason Quiring and James Roberts both had 20 each to lead the Hawks, while Quinn Turner (19) and Connor Bradley (16) were tops for the Highlanders (8-2).

Jacob's high powered offense downed SJAM by a 71-58 final last night. Jason Quiring and James Roberts both had 20 each to lead the Hawks, while Quinn Turner (19) and Connor Bradley (16) were tops for the Highlanders (8-2).

CWOSSA about 5 weeks away
Hard to believe the season is about a month and a bit from being over.
K-W is hosting both AAA & AAAA CWOSSA this year, which should make the February 26th and 27th weekend a very exciting one here locally.

D8 Senior: Eagles score 5 in final 23 seconds and Buzzer-Beat Rez
I know the St. David Celtics and Monsignor Doyle Mustangs will have something to say about it, but if today's D8 tilt at St. Mary's was a finals preview then we might be in for a treat.
The St. Mary's Eagles got a Kueth Geng three-pointer at the buzzer to defeat the Resurrection Phoenix 53-50 today at the Eagles' nest. Geng's three-ball was one of seven that the Eagles hit on the day, compared to just one for Resurrection.
The Eagles trailed by 2 (52-50) with 23 seconds left after Rez's John Moi made 1-of-2 from the line. St. Mary's pushed the ball down the floor and got a Ben Bankazo layup with about a dozen ticks on the clock.
Resurrection then attempted to hurry down for the final shot but turned the ball over with just over 6 seconds left to play. After inbounding the ball, PG Isaac Lance dished off to Geng who hit the shot as the buzzer sounded. Geng had scored just one other basket in the game, but made the big shot when it counted.
The Eagles jumped out to a first-quarter lead of 21-13, but Rez turned the tables in the second to go into halftime down just one (33-32). The second half was D8 "grind it out" basketball (20-18 St. Mary's).
Rez had their chances down the stretch, and they'll probably be kicking themselves for this one. However, poor free throw shooting and untimely turnovers proved enough to do Resurrection in.
Grade eleven rookies Alex Thompson (14) and Isaac Lance (11) were the high scorers for St. Mary's. Another rookie, Mike Pereira, led Rez with 13 points while Matt Stocco added 10.
Oh, and I'd also like to thank the Eagles for making my 3-point prediction ring true.

In D8 action today at St. Mary's, the Resurrection Phoenix won their 21st consecutive District 8 game (including playoffs) as they held off the St. Mary's Eagles 49-46.
The Phoenix held a ten point lead in the first half, but after a turnover with 5 seconds left in the second, Chris Walser drilled a three to have the Eagles down 7 at the half.
The third quarter saw some spotty Resurrection free-throw shooting. The Phoenix went just 1-for-8 in the quarter, while the Eagles took advantage. They closed the quarter on a 9-0 run and the game was tied heading to the fourth.
In the fourth quarter, the Eagles took flight and held a brief lead of 3 points with under 4:00 to play. However, the Phoenix maintained composure and a quick four point spurt gave them the lead for good.
It did get a little interesting at the end ---- the Phoenix were up 3 with under 30 seconds left and St. Mary's in possession. However, a missed jumper and Rez rebound + free throw seemed to give the Phoenix the game (4 point lead with 8.3 to go). Of course, St. Mary's still had a shot as Resurrection committed a shooting foul to put St. Mary's on the line for 2 shots with 3.8 left. 1-of-2 and a RCSS rebound sealed the game as a 49-46 final.

D8 Showdown: Resurrection (7-1) vs St. Mary's (7-1)
Huge battle in the D8 league today (3:30pm) between two of my top ten CWOSSA teams. The Resurrection Phoenix (7-1 D8, #5 CWOSSA) travel across Kitchener to battle the St. Mary's Eagles (7-1 D8, #6 CWOSSA).
The last time these teams met, the Phoenix rallied from 10 points down to defeat the Eagles at home, 56-51. Starting Rez guard Tyler Schneider did not play in that contest due to injury.

This should again be a very close matchup.
For Resurrection to win, the Phoenix must use their size and length advantage to win this game. I think they must slow the pace slightly and make this a halfcourt game.
St. Mary's has seen some great play from their rookies (most notably Isaac Lance & Alex Thompson). If that continues, they'll be able to take this game. In addition, they'll have to have some better decision making and rebounding (i.e. boxing out the taller Phoenix) than they did in the first encounter.

I think the Eagles are primed for some revenge. I'll take them by 3.

WCSSAA Junior: Things Get Tighter after Tuesday Surprises
A few "surprises" in the WCSSAA league on Tuesday have made things a whole lot more interesting after the top two spots (SJAM and Forest Heights).
"Surprises" is in brackets because it can be argued that all three have been flying a bit under the radar in the WCSSAA league.
Let's start with those games....and you don't have to rub it in. Yes, I picked all three incorrectly.
Eastwood 66, Huron Heights 62 (OT)
The Rebels have been playing good basketball, but I wasn't expecting this just yet. No sighting of Huron Hts' top scorer Sean Samuel in the leading scorers --- curious if he wasn't playing or if Eastwood simply shut him down. At any rate, the balanced Rebel attack was led by Mirza Zahic (16), Jerelle Vaughan (15), and Djordje Govedarica (15). Sam Hernandez had 16 for Huron Heights.
Glenview Park 47, Cameron Heights 45
This might not have surprised me at the start of the year, but the Gaels were playing some of their best basketball as of late. Andrew Squires was held to 12 points for GPSS, but Erist Wame had a solid effort with 16 in the win. Vedran Dmitrovic again led Cameron, this time with 19 points.

I remember either a year or two back when the JHSS juniors beat WCI and somebody had mentioned that they "thought" it was the first time in history that JHSS beat WCI. If that was indeed the case, the Hawks pick up their second career win over WCI. 6'2" PG Jason Quiring is looking like a WCSSAA first team all-star as he had another 20+ performance, this time with 22. Lucas Marsden added 12 in the win. For WCI, Jeremy Scott and Adam Anagnostopoulos had 12 each.

WCSSAA Senior: Lancers Shock Renegades
Yes, the Elmira Lancers have been playing some competitive basketball lately. Today, they pulled off a big upset of the Grand River Collegiate Renegades and got themselves right back in the playoff hunt.
The Lancers (now 2-7) eked out a 61-58 victory over Grand River. Tim Gromeder led the way and joined the 20+ club with 20 on the button. Eric Alderice added 17 and Scott Albrecht netted 15 for Elmira.
Osama Qahwash was the high man for GRCI with 22. Brodi Verbiski chipped in 15.
Earlier this year, the Lancers defeated another solid team---Preston----for their other win. Needless to say there are some teams who are definitely hoping that the Lancers don't sneak their way into the playoffs.
For those with EDSS remaining on their schedule, you've been warned.

A little surprised by the margin, but like the Trojans it looks like the 'Landers brought their defensive "A" game today. Top scorers for SJAM were rookies Edem Ame (17) and Ben Reyhani (16). Brian Doran led Southwood with 9.

The Raiders have yet another game in single digits, this time coming away with the victory at the expense of WODSS. Arben Kalaba chipped in a game-high 17 points for KCI, while Patrick Connors and Eric Wooley had 10 each for the Crusaders.

Looks like the bench got some work for CHCI today --- as Stefan Arezina was nowhere to be seen among the leading scorers. Nebojsa Djeric (19) and Brandon Murphy (7) led the way today. Mark Saris had 12 for Glenview.

A balanced Rebel attack accounted for 45 points (Steffon Heyliger - 20, Zaman Sindy & Gondor Teny - 15 each) as Eastwood stays in the playoff hunt. Ramis Khan (11) and Shayan Butt (10) were high scorers for the Huskies.

My Pick Was: BCI
No trouble as expected for the shorthanded Knights. Stefan Cvrkalj (18) and Perrin Smith (10) outscored Galt by themselves. Gabe Vidal (12 points) had a nice game for Galt in a losing effort.

To build a successful program, sometimes you have to hit rock bottom first - and the Assumption College Lions experienced that last week.
Despite a devastating loss to Brantford Collegiate Institute last week and a 52-31 loss to the North Park Collegiate Trojans Monday, the senior boys basketball team is finally on the right path to success.
"We hit rock bottom (Thursday against BCI)," Lions coach Mike Petrella said. "The guys were thinking way too much about the game so we gave them the weekend off. They came back fresh today and we're proud of the way they played."
Being proud of their team may sound strange after a shellacking but heading into their tilt with the Trojans, the Lions knew it was going to be an uphill battle and there was no way to go but up.
"Our focus for today's game was to have fun and regardless of the score, work hard on every play," Petrella said. "They (NPC) have more talent than us. We had to match them in intensity tonight and I think we did that. And for that, we should be proud of these guys."
Petrella said the effort the Lions gave is something that can go along way. The key is for the players to remember how they played and match that intensity for the remainder of the season.
"We're in a rebuilding phase," Petrella said. "For them to come out and play hard against an elite team is something that can be built on."
Though it was a blowout, the Lions did keep it close in the first quarter, only being down five. But the bigger, stronger, undefeated Trojans used its outside shooting and size inside to finally put the game out of reach.
Mark Dickens led the Trojans scoring 16 points, 12 of which were beyond the three-point arc. Dave Eves scored 15, while Brandon Webster netted 10. Cale McDonald scored six points, Mike Dulmage had four and Marcus Hamilton added two.
Peter Baterseh and Jordan McCormack each scored five points to lead the Lions, while Justin Thibideau netted three. Kevin Cleary, Brady Jonker and Paul Sobolski each added two points.
While the Lions were trying to get on the right track, Dulmage said he and the Trojans are trying to maintain the path they've set from the beginning of the season.
"I think we played a good game tonight," Dulmage said. "We're coming off a big tournament on the weekend and we just want to keep playing the way have been."
The Trojans posted a 2-1 record at the Silver Fox Tournament in Hamilton, where they were able to match up with some of the other highly ranked teams in the province. And having run rough shot over the entire Brant league thus far, playing in tournaments like that is the best thing for them.
"Even when we lost we were happy with the way we played," Dulmage said. "Going to tournaments like that is a good thing for us. It's the type of thing that keeps our heads level."

The playoff spots have all been decided. Resurrection has virtually locked up first place (St. Mary's would need to beat RCSS by 6+ tomorrow AND have RCSS lose to St. Benedict to overtake them).
St. David (with Rockway & St. Benedict left) will likely finish third. If they beat Rockway, St. Benedict would need to beat both St. David by 10 points + AND beat Resurrection to earn 3rd place.

WCSSAA Tuesday Selections

Time to head south.
An interesting day on the WCSSAA schedule with all five Cambridge schools hosting games on Tuesday. More interesting, they are doing so against the "upper tier" teams from KW. Can any pull off an upset? Here's my picks.....
Cameron Heights (4-4) at Glenview Park (2-6)
My Pick: CHCI
Line: CHCI by 21
The Gaels put an end to their 2 game losing streak here.
Huron Heights (1-7) at Eastwood (1-7)
My Pick: ECI
Line: ECI by 9
Interesting game here; both teams need a win desperately to remain in the playoff hunt. Edge to the homecourt Rebels.
Forest Heights (5-3) at Preston (5-3)
My Pick: PHS
Line: PHS by 3
Preston has played very well at home. Common opponents of late? Both beat KCI by one. I'll give Preston the 3 point edge for "home court" and pick them in the upset.
KCI (5-3) at WODSS (2-6)
My Pick: KCI
Line: KCI by 28
The Raiders get a big win on the road to keep their first-round bye chances alive.
Grand River (4-4) at Elmira (1-7)
My Pick: GRCI
Line: GRCI by 8
The Rens hopefully were paying attention to the scores last week --- where the Lancers hung with KCI & WCI.
SJAM (7-1) at Southwood (6-2) ***Game of the Day***
My Pick: SJAM
Line: SJAM by 4
Should be a good one over at Southwood. Slight edge to the Highlanders.......very slight.
Bluevale (8-0) at Galt (3-5)
My Pick: BCI
Line: BCI by 24
Not sure on the status of the Beneys here. My gut feeling is that they'll probably sit out this week (GCI & EDSS on the schedule) to rest up. It won't matter for the Knights here.
Waterloo CI (7-1) at Jacob Hespeler (3-5)
My Pick: WCI
Line: WCI by 8
My old KCI teammate Matt McIntyre has the Hespeler Hawks playing some competitive basketball ---- nearly pulling the upset over Grand River on the road. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Hawks win here, but we saw how well picking against WCI worked for me last Tuesday ---- Vikes to get it done in this one.

D8 Senior: St. David survives Monsignor Doyle in Overtime
At the beginning of the season, not many people would have thought that the D8's AAA CWOSSA berth would go to the Doyle Mustangs.
With (likely) the #3 D8 seed and a AAA CWOSSA berth on the line, the St. David Celtics survived the Monsingor Doyle Mustangs in a very exciting game by a 47-40 final ---- giving the Celtics the inside track to CWOSSA.
The Mustangs were up by 2 points in regulation with 20 seconds remaining, but gave up a Tyson Lavigne putback with 3 seconds left that forced overtime.
In the extra frame, Doyle struggled from the floor and were forced to foul down the stretch with the difference at the end being St. David's solid free throw shooting.
Leading scorers for St. David were Tyson Lavigne with 17 and Mike Schummer with 13 points. Shayne Teet (20) and Josh Loehle (14) were tops for Doyle.
St. David isn't out of the woods just yet, but this was definitely a big win for them.
