How good a field has been assembled for the annual Resurrection Phoenix Luke Santi Memorial junior boys Tournament?
Let's just say that the first place (in D8) Phoenix might be in tough to even make the semifinals of the 8 team tournament. In fact, 5 of the 8 teams participating have not lost a game as of yet in league play.
The Phoenix have won both editions of the tournament since it was renamed in honour of former RCSS junior star Santi, who passed away in November 2007 after a battle with cancer. (See article from TheRecord.com). In his final high school game, Santi pumped in 5 three pointers and 19 points in a losing effort to St. Mary's in the 2007 D8 junior final.
Of course, Santi was more than just a great athlete. He maintained a high-90s average in the classroom and Waterloo's Perimiter Institute for Theoretical Physics has established a scholarship in his memory.
The confirmed teams for this tournament are:
Bishop Macdonell (Guelph/D10) --- Current #1 in CWOSSA
