The undefeated Centennial Spartans survived yet another close one in D10 league play on a rare Wednesday night game yesterday.
The Spartans travelled down the Hanlon Parkway to battle the Lourdes Crusaders and came away with a narrow 63-62 win. This marks the fifth time this year that Centennial has won a game by 4 points or less.
For the Spartans, Adrian Varilla (18) and Jay Francis (17) led the way while the usual suspects were at it again for Lourdes ---- Mike Finoro had 27 while Sharieff Peru connected for 19 points.
The moves the Spartans to 12-0 on the year, while Lourdes falls to 5-7 in a very balanced D10 league. Centennial's average margin of victory in their 12 wins has been only 11.8 PPG. If you exclude their first two games against Bishop Mac and CW, it's 7.5 PPG.
Still, the fact of the matter remains that the veteran Spartans are undefeated and perhaps these close games will help them down the stretch in the D10 playoffs and (should they advance) into CWOSSA.
In the junior portion of the doubleheader, the CWOSSA #3 Lourdes Crusaders held off Centennial by a 58-54 score. Chris Watson had 24 points for Lourdes, while Aleks Kaludjerovic led the Spartans with 18.
