D8 Monday: Senior Phoenix End Saints' Win Streak

The Resurrection Phoenix handed the St. Benedict Saints their first loss in D8 senior action yesterday, nipping their hosts by a 48-45 final down in Cambridge.

Celia McGlynn had 22 points for Resurrection, while Afifa Salaad was impressive for the Saints with an 18-point effort of her own.

The win means St. Benedict (8-1) and Resurrection (7-1) now each have one loss atop the league standings.  The two squads will meet again next Monday at Resurrection, with first place on the line.

The other senior game yesterday was a B division matchup that saw St. Mary's knock off Rockway 37-15.  Full scoring details weren't immediately available.

In D8 junior action yesterday, the St. Mary's Eagles moved to 6-2 by dismantling the Rockway Flames 60-9.

Julia Kulczynska had 15 for the Eagles, while Summer Pahl added 14.  Leah Bauman netted 4 for RMC.

Meanwhile, St. David topped Woodland 42-16 in the other game on Monday.  Emily White had 10 and Martinique Stastna 8 for the Celts; Jasmine Deweerd scored 9 for the Cavs.

Junior Playoff Picture:
As there is a 10-game schedule in D8, St. David's win yesterday means the teams qualifying for the playoffs have been determined.  Resurrection, St. Mary's, St. Benedict and St. David will all advance to the league semifinals.

Resurrection (having beaten SMHS twice) has also clinched the top seed overall for the playoffs.
