For the first time in 33 years, a team from Waterloo Region has captured the annual Heinbuch Classic tournament -- this year, hosted at Conestoga College in Kitchener.
The St. Benedict Saints locked down defensively throughout the weekend, culminating in a 48-34 championship victory over Cardinal Newman (Stoney Creek).
SBCSS got to the final with a 53-39 win over Sarnia Northern, after earlier posting victories over WCI (71-42) and Brantford North Park (57-51).
Zubair Seyed was named as the tournament MVP, while Justin Malnerich received first-team all-star honours.
The Saints weren't the only team from CWOSSA to capture hardware over the weekend, as the Brantford North Park Trojans shook off an 0-2 start to rebound and capture consecutive wins en route to the consolation bracket title.
The Trojans, after their aforementioned loss to St. Benedict, dropped a second-round game to St. Thomas More (48-42) before defeating Adam Scott of Peterborough (58-38) and Waterloo SJAM in the final (63-48).
NPC's Cal Hager received second-team all-star honours.
The remaining 5 CWOSSA teams combined for a 4-12 record at the competitive tournament, as follows (with wins noted):
