WCSSAA Senior Thursday: Favourites Come Through on Thursday

A perfect picks sheet on Thursday for me, although a couple of teams certainly received some challenges.

The Elmira Lancers, for starters, moved to 2-4 but it didn't come easy at the hands of winless Galt as they held of a Ghost rally to win 40-36.

Krista Wiens had 12 and Emily Sider 8 for Elmira, while Melissa Smith had a game-high 15 for the Ghosts and Megan White chipped in with 5.

Meanwhile, the Jacob Hespeler Hawks got off to a 13-0 lead but gradually saw the Southwood Sabres chip away before running out of time in a 40-33 final.  Brook Wright had 15 and Candice Wright 11 in the win; Taylor White had 12 and Nicole Barnard 11 for Southwood.

Here's a recap of the rest of Thursday's action:

WCI 69, SJAM 18
My Pick:  WCI by 31
The Vikes certainly rolled on Thursday, putting four players in double-figures --- Julia Pavlik (15), Kaylee Anagnostopoulos (15), Anja Gorrie (11) and Courtney Banham (10).  Malena McCrossan-Moses (5) and Safina Hussein (4) topped SJAM's scoring.

Cameron Heights 53, Eastwood 20
My Pick:  CHCI by 15
Wasn't as close as I expected, as the Gaels did a great job defensively on Thursday.  Liz McLellan poured in a huge 29-point effort, while Shama Saleh added 7.

WODSS 60, Forest Heights 43
My Pick:  WODSS by 22
Maddy Horst put in 14 points and Jenny Newcombe and Becca Payne added 8 each as the Crusaders stayed perfect in WCSSAA play.  Blair McNaughton poured in 27, while Sara Potter added 11 for the Trojans.

Bluevale 60, Grand River 40
My Pick:  BCI by 22
Like W-O, Bluevale also stayed perfect heading into the Thanksgiving break.  Sarah Hamm and Kailee Sawyer had 15 each for Bluevale, while Kailey Deboer (13) and Leticia Skeete (6) led GRCI.

KCI 47, Huron Heights 37
My Pick:  KCI by 22
Closer than I anticipated, but the Raiders still came out on top.  Scoring details weren't immediately available.

Preston 42, Glenview Park 28
My Pick:  PHS by 15
Ashley White led the way with 13, while Taylor Devries added 8 to give the Panthers a key win in the playoff race.  Jocelyn Kivell had 13 and Justine Schwier 6 for Glenview.
