Junior: Oakwood Tops Resurrection in George Brown College Tourney Final

Tournament All-Stars from Oakwood/Rez
The junior Resurrection Phoenix played this past weekend at the historic George Brown College (Casa Loma Campus) gym, a basketball "mecca" that has seen many great players grace its presence over time --- Jay Triano, Leo Rautins, Jamaal Magliore, Steve Nash, and Tracy McGrady to name a few.

Rez went 2-1, dropping the tournament championship game to Toronto Oakwood by a 70-52 score.  In the championship final, Ali Rashid had 17 points and Jake Rush added 10 for the Phoenix, while Malik Kennedy had 18 and Shaquan Barrett netted 15 for the Barons.

To advance to the championship final, Resurrection defeated Toronto's Don Bosco (73-55) in the first round, with a balanced scoring attack keyed by four players in double-figures --- 17 each from Jake Rush and Muyang Iluya, and 16 from Ali Rashid and 10 by Prince Dang.

The Phoenix then bested Mississauga's Applewood Heights 64-53 in the semifinals, with Iluya notching 27 points and Rashid adding 20 more.  Stefan Tubic had 24 for the Axemen.

Oakwood defeated Toronto Runnymede (74-44) in the other semifinal.  Full results are available on the HooptownGTA website.

Oakwood's Shaquan Barrett was named tournament MVP, while Georgi Nedyalkou was also named to the tournament all-star team for the Barons alongside Rashid & Iluya of Resurrection, and Etobicoke CI's Max Foran.

The Etobicoke Rams, coached by legendary Blue Jays announcer Jerry Howarth, took the consolation championship over Don Bosco.
