Purple and Gold: Cameron Heights Captures Title over Centre Wellington

Cameron Heights captured their 2nd "Purple and Gold" tournament championship in the four-year history of the tournament as they pulled out a 55-51 win over the Centre Wellington Falcons at Resurrection CSS in Kitchener.

The game was close throughout the first half; CWDHS led 12-10 after the first but the Gaels utilized a strong 16-9 second quarter run to lead 26-21 at the half (11 of their 16 were from the hot hand of Sasha Simic).

Simic continued to shoot the lights out hitting 3 of his 4 three-pointers in the second half to gap the Falcons by as much as 16 in the third quarter.  Josh McEachern, Centre Wellington's star, picked up his fourth foul near the end of the 3rd quarter with CHCI up by 14 and sat for a solid chunk of the fourth period.

Oddly enough, the Falcons made a run with him on the bench.

It seemed as though the Gaels started to play "not to lose" in the 4th quarter, passing on multiple open looks (and subsequently turning the ball over multiple times).  The Falcons were actually able to pull within 6 with 2:40 left in the game.

However, the Falcons couldn't quite climb to the top of the comeback mountain as on successive trips they missed a lay-up, turned the ball over and missed another easy layup that would have brought it to within a bucket.

McEachern subbed back in at the 2:09 mark of the fourth, with the Falcons down 53-47.  The teams exchanged baskets down the stretch, and the Gaels were able to hold on for a 55-51 win.

Simic finished with 26 in the game, while Nikola Farkic added 7.  McEachern netted 16 for CW despite his foul trouble; James Scott added 9 for the Falcons.
