WCSSAA Senior Thursday: 'Landers Top Huskies, Continue To Roll

Look out.

Just when you had written off the SJAM Highlanders after their 0-4 start, the West Waterloo ballers have reeled off four consecutive wins to move to 4-4, their latest being a 55-47 win over the Huron Heights Huskies on Thursday afternoon.

Ben Reyhani (18) and Quinn Turner (16) topped the Highlander scoring, while HHHS' top gun, Sean Samuel, had a game high 21 with his teammate Aaron Turpin adding 15.

With tie-breakers over all of the other 4-4 teams (CHCI, WODSS, HHHS), SJAM has gone from a team that needed to do some work to get into the playoffs to a team that looks like it may host a qualifying round playoff game.  Still a long way to go, of course.

Here are the rest of Thursday's results:

Bluevale 58, Preston 34
My Pick:  BCI
I expected this one to be a bit closer, but the Bluevale Knights went on the offensive while continuing their strong efforts on the defensive end en route to the big victory.  Perrin Smith (14) and Garrett Large (12) led the way for BCI while Sean Holmes had 7 and Dan Perreira 6 for Preston.

Grand River 72, KCI 35
My Pick:  GRCI
No trouble for the Rens as they continue to hold down sole possession of second place in the WCSSAA league.  Filip Cvrkalj topped the scoring with 27 points, while Matt McKinnon had 8 for the Raiders.

Forest Heights 63, Elmira 25
My Pick:  FHCI
Resting most of their top guns for tomorrow's Silver Fox (Javon Masters tweeted that he played "about 4 minutes"), the first-place Trojans still rolled the last-place Lancers.  Jackson Kamara netted 15 and Mohamed Al-Hares 13 in the win, while Walker Stewart had 7 for Elmira.

Galt 58, WODSS 39
My Pick:  Galt
Another game that I was on the correct side pick-wise, but that I thought might be a bit closer.  Jack Simmons (20) and Owais Khairi (16) led the way for Galt in this one, while Patrick Conners had 15 and Kyle Weber 7 for the Crusaders.  A game that may have some key implications down the line with regards to playoff seeding.

Cameron Heights 57, Jacob Hespeler 52
My Pick:  CHCI
I'm sure the Jacob Hespeler Hawks will be happy to get Javon Bryce back, after their second consecutive league loss without their talented guard.  Vedran Dmitrovic poured in a game-high 23 in the win, with Nem Simic back in action and adding 9.  Jason Quiring and Saajan Arora had 11 each for Hespeler.

Eastwood 72, Southwood 30
My Pick:  ECI
The Rebels grab their second win of the season --- look out for this team in the second half as they are definitely better than their 2-6 record might indicate.  Patric Pintea poured home 29 in this one, with Jerrelle Vaughan adding 17 for Eastwood.  Austin Gordon (7) and Zack Sauer (5) led Southwood.

WCI 65, Glenview Park 51
My Pick:  WCI
The Panthers kept this one respectable at home, but didn't quite have enough to match the offensive talents of the Vikings.  Jacob Ranton had 19 and Dani Elgadi 15 for WCI, with Sean Davidson (18) and Erist Wame (14) finishing as the top GPSS scorers.
