The Monsignor Doyle Mustangs were the lone CWOSSA team to come home with some team hardware over the weekend in Cambridge at the annual "Saints Invitational Tournament". This year marked the first year that a junior draw (8 teams) was included as well.
After losing their opener to St. Anne (Windsor/Lakeshore) 63-44, the 'Stangs rebounded to slip past Guelph St. James 36-35 in the consolation semifinals. They had no trouble taking care of Ursuline College (Chatham) in the consolation final, pulling away for a 54-35 win.
St. Benedict was the lone CWOSSA school to advance to the championship side of the bracket, falling in the semifinals to eventual champion Windsor Catholic Central. They did rebound to defeat my pre-tournament favourite Jean Vanier (Richmond Hill), although the Jaguars split their junior squad between this tournament and the Junior Rimrocker in Mississauga.
