The St. John's Green Eagles proved over the weekend that they aren't just one of the top teams in CWOSSA --- but also one of the top teams in the province.
At the competitive St. Mary's Tip-Off Classic, the Green Eagles went 3-0 in pool play before dropping a 41-31 decision to Pickering HS in the tournament's semifinal.
In pool play, the Green Eagles were on their offensive game, scoring 58+ points in each of their three wins. They started out by defeating Oakville Loyola 68-47 on Friday, then followed that up with wins on Saturday over Brampton Campion (67-56) and Waterloo CI (58-29).
The Vikes were the only other CWOSSA team in the event, and went 0-3 in pool play with losses to Campion (44-27) and Loyola (47-45).
Kendra Van Leeuwen was named to the tournament's all-star team.
HooptownGTA has a complete recap of the scores. Bill Crothers' Excellence Program (who are not eligible for OFSAA) took the championship final, 39-34 over Pickering.
