It was an interesting Tuesday in the WCSSAA Senior league, with a few tight games along the way (3 of the 7 games on the schedule were decided by 3 points or less).
Here's how things went down:
Grand River 56, WCI 54
My Pick: WCI by 3
Kaylee Anagnostopoulos poured in 26 points for WCI, but it wasn't enough as the Renegades held on down the stretch for a 2-point victory. Nancy Michael (17) and Maya Day (14) led the way for Grand River, while Danielle Sauve (13) was also a double-figure scorer for WCI.
Bluevale 48, Preston 20
My Pick: BCI by 23
Julia Curran (14) and Megan Reid (11) led the way again for the Knights in this one as they moved to 2-0. Breanna Johnson (6) and Maddie DeVries (4) were the top Panther scorers on Tuesday.
Jacob Hespeler 41, Elmira 23
My Pick: JHSS by 9
The Hawks did an effective job on the defensive end in a road win at Elmira. Shianne Riggan knocked home 15 points, while Candice Wright added 14 for the Hawks. Karley Sider scored 12 while Nicole Cressman added 8 for the Lancers.
SJAM 43, Huron Heights 40
My Pick: SJAM by 13
The 'Landers got a big effort from Taylor Trush (23 points) and needed all of them as they edged the Huskies on the road. Milica Koprivica added 12 more for SJAM, while Kiana Chin was the high scorer for the 2nd straight game for the Huskies with 15.
Cameron Heights 56, WODSS 24
My Pick: CHCI by 34
Nina Farkic (14) and Hunter Johns (10) were in double figures as the Gaels cruised past the Crusaders at home. Tess Pettigrew was in double-digits for WO with 10, while Peyton Hofstetter added 6.
Eastwood 31, Forest Heights 21
My Pick: FHCI by 6
Nice defensive effort for the Rebels who take the "W" in a game that I thought might go the other way. Mel Samuel had 14 and Mandy Schell 6 for Eastwood, while Linna Liou (16) and Zohra Karimi (5) were the lone Trojans to hit the scoresheet.
WCSSAA Junior
Eastwood 33, Forest Heights 28
The Rebels evened up their record at 1-1 with a win at Forest Heights (0-2). Emma Miller and Kezia Bernard (12) were double-digit scorers for the Rebels in their victory, while Morgan Berg (13) and Dez Chanthaboury (7) topped the Trojan scoresheet.
Glenview Park 33, KCI 19
Chuchu Oyal led Glenview with a nice 14-point effort as the Panthers topped the Raiders on the road. Simone Clarke scored 11 for KCI, with Cassia Gohl adding 4.
Preston 47, Bluevale 16
I have the Panthers tabbed as one of the top several teams in the WCSSAA league, and they showed a glimpse of that with a big win over Bluevale. Brooke Davidson (12), Maggie McKenzie (8) and Emma Naylor (8) paced a balanced Preston attack, while Jasmine Lambert scored 8 for the Knights.
Jacob Hespeler 30, Elmira 12
The Hawks took care of the Lancers in this important "AAA" battle. Charlotte Clifford (10) and Maddy Adams (9) led the way for Hespeler, while Natalie Mayer had an 8-point effort for Elmira.
SJAM 41, Huron Heights 18
The Highlanders moved to 2-0 by taking out the Huskies on Tuesday. Kate Moran (14) and Griffin Lack-Shane (9) paced the SJAM scoresheet, while Jamila Beckford had a double-digit effort for Huron Heights with 10.
WCI 37, Grand River 33
Tight one over in Kitchener, but the Vikings escaped with a 4-point road win. Ramla Abdalla (10) and Victoria Giguere (8) recorded the high point totals for WCI; Jenna Crawford (12) and Emma Cudney (10) were both in double-figures for the Rens.
WODSS 48, Cameron Heights 34
After not playing last Thursday, the Crusaders took their regular-season opener over Cameron Heights. Emily Glendinning (17) and Rachel Woolvett (14) were the top WODSS scorers, while Zoe Hoyte led the Gaels with 15.
