A reader sent me a note through asking me what my thoughts were on an updated version of the "top 10" AAA CWOSSA teams.
Here's a look my current "power ranking", with how things have changed since I last did this in December:
Senior AAA
1. Centre Dufferin (3)
2. North Park (1)
3. Galt (6)
4. Jacob Hespeler (2)
5. Preston (4)
6. WODSS (5)
7. Huron Heights (7)
8. St. James (8)
9. Brantford CI (9)
10. Holy Trinity (10)
.....and yes, I do realize that NPC lost a close one to Galt at the Saints Invitational. This is based upon the "body of work", and NPC still has a few key wins under their belt to warrant a #2 ranking. Centre Dufferin takes top spot with a couple of wins over "upper tier" D10 teams (CWDHS & Lourdes), but I'll be honest in stating that there is no clear favourite at this point of the season to take the AAA title and the OFSAA berth that goes with it! It should be a great CWOSSA tournament in February, and one that I'll definitely be keeping an eye on.
Now, as for junior:
Junior AAA
1. St. James (1)
2. St. David (2)
3. North Park (3)
4. Galt CI (7)
5. Huron Heights (4)
6. Preston (6)
7. Guelph CVI (5)
8. Elmira DSS (NR)
9. Brantford CI (8)
9. Brantford CI (8)
10 (tie). Southwood SS (NR)
10 (tie). West Hill (10)...a little more clear cut, but still very interesting. St. James won the St. David junior tournament (which had both St. David and Huron Heights participating). Huron Heights has had a solid season, but (some players) shot themselves in the foot a bit by violating team rules and being suspended for a couple games --- one being a blowout loss to AAA rival Galt.
Right now, it looks as though your AAA champion will be from one of the "top 3" teams but both Galt (TJ Lall) and Huron Heights (Arshid Babury) have scorers that could get hot and change the dynamic of the CWOSSA tournament.
