Brantford Expositor: Eagles Even Junior Final

Article By:  Ed O'Leary

It was like the difference between night and day.

St. John's College Green Eagles, soundly beaten Tuesday, turned the tables on the North Park Collegiate Trojans in scoring a 61-31 victory Thursday night at Assumption College.

The Eagles' victory evens the Brant County high school junior boys best-of-three basketball championship playoff 1-1.

North Park won the opening game 54-41.

The deciding game will be played Tuesday night at Assumption.

Both teams will advance to CWOSSA championships. The Trojans will go to the AAA tournament in Kitchener and the Eagles will got to the AAAA championship in Waterloo.

Both tournaments are scheduled to be played Feb. 25 and 26.

The Eagles, undefeated in Brant County this season until Tuesday night, dominated from start to finish.

"I think our intensity was there from the very beginning," said Eagles' head coach Matt Lynch, who his team build quarter leads of 12-7, 28-14 and 42-18.

"We had a ton of fouls Tuesday. They shot 35 free throws. We played better defence."

The Trojans had only nine free-throw attempts in Game 2.

The Eagles were led by post players Cam Post and Jake Brennan and guard Tim Dawson.

Post, who ran into foul trouble in Game 1, led St. John's with 24 points. Brennan got 10 points as he combined with Post to dominate the backboards.

Dawson hurt the Trojans by driving to the basket. He finished with 17 points.

Brodie McIvor scored nine points for the Trojans. Vishol Brar got six points and Crisna Som added five.

"Our bigs (Post and Brennan) gave great minutes," said Lynch. "Not only did they gave great minutes but they were smart minutes. They didn't try to do too much.

"We also have great guard play. They attacked when they had the opportunity. When they didn't, they pulled it out and ran the offence."

The Trojans were without power forward Jon Dulmage, who is always a rebounding force.

Dulmage was suffering from the flu but is expected to return for Game 3.

"He matches up well with our bigs," said Lynch. "It'll definitely help them to have him back. He's one of their top guys."

The Eagles expect the Trojans to be at their best for Game 3.

"I expect to see a battle," Lynch said. 'We need to come out and compete like we did with the intensity and focus we had tonight."
