AAAA Finals Set

The "AAAA" championship games will get underway in about an hour's time at Resurrection CSS in Kitchener.

The junior final will --- for the third consecutive year --- feature the WCSSAA champion (this year, Forest Heights) against the D8 champion (this year, St. Mary's).  The Eagles will be looking to make it four "AAAA" crowns in a row for the D8, but will have their work cut out for them.

Chris Clouthier, arguably the Eagles' best player, injured himself earlier in the week and has not played in CWOSSA.  Although SMHS defeated Forest Heights 64-48 in pool play, I expect a closer game this time around, and possibly an FHCI win if they get solid efforts from their key performers.

In senior, I'm not sure how many people would have picked a Cameron Heights - JF Ross senior final at the start of the season, yet here we are.  I would give a slight edge to the deeper Royals, who have had a little more rest since their semifinal win.

Though I give JF Ross the advantage, I think Cameron Heights really needs the win a bit more in terms of OFSAA seeding ---- I don't see the Gaels higher than a 17th seed (in the 18-team OFSAA tournament) unless they head in as CWOSSA champions.  JF Ross has a bit more "name recognition" (making their second consecutive trip) but I think they'd be looking at a 14th seed, at highest, even with a win.

That all being said, it's clear that these two might have a chance at pulling an upset or two as they are playing CWOSSA's best basketball heading into the AAAA championships set for London (March 7th, 8th, 9th).
