D4: #1 Seeds Advance in Different Ways

The #1 seed in both the junior and senior D4 leagues were victorious in their respective semifinal games on Monday afternoon; however, it's safe to say that they both went about getting that win in very different ways.

The #1 (and undefeated in league play) Centre Dufferin Royals dominated from start to finish in an 80-41 thrashing of Wellington Heights.  Alex Severn poured in 21 points in the win, while Doug Costanzo added 20 more for CDDHS.  The Wolverines received 10 from Paul Kables and 8 from Alex Hugli.

Meanwhile, things didn't quite go so smoothly for the #1 team in the junior circuit, the Norwell Redmen, who were 9-1 in league play.  They eked out a 37-36 win over the #4 Westside Thunder, thanks to 12 big points from Eric MacDonald.  James Heslinga had a game-high 18 for the Thunder.

The senior final, to be played on Wednesday at Centre Dufferin (2:30pm) will feature the Royals hosting #2 Orangeville Westside, who held off #3 Norwell by a 37-31 count on Monday.  Josh Millican pumped in 17 for the Thunder, while Taylor Hartley netted 10.  Matt Girodat was the lone Redmen player in double figures with 10.

The junior final will also be played on Wednesday (at Norwell - 2:30pm) and that contest will see the #1 Redmen host #3 Centre Dufferin, who got past #2 Wellington Heights 57-54 on Monday.  The Royals received 16 from Dhruv Patel and 10 from Noah Sterling in the win, while the Wolverines got a game-high 24 from Kurtis Trommelen.

In terms of CWOSSA qualification:
  • Norwell will be the D4 representative in both junior and senior "AA".
  • In junior, Centre Dufferin will play St. James in an "AAA" CWOSSA qualifier next week.
  • In senior, the CDDHS/Westside winner will play St. James in an "AAA" CWOSSA qualifier next week.
