The JF Ross Royals snuck past a pesky St. James Lions team on Thursday, edging them 42-40 on the strength of a double-digit performance by Ryan Stulp (10). Zach McClenaghan had a game-high 11 for the Lions.
With the win, the Royals will enter the Christmas Break with a 7-1 record, and sole possession of first place in the D10 standings. However, the two teams right behind them (Lourdes & Bishop Mac) are 6-1 with a game in hand.
The other game on Thursday was a bit of a surprise --- at least as far as the final margin is concerned --- as Centre Wellington easily handled Centennial by a 63-34 final. Ty Uhrig had 14 and James Scott 13 for the Falcons, while Chris Jin and Harnoor Samra had 10 each for the Spartans.
In junior games on Thursday, CWDHS edged Centennial 57-56 on the strength of an overtime buzzer-beating three-pointer by Nate Scott, who led Centre Wellington with 13. Harman Goyal had a game-high 27 points for Centennial.
The improving JF Ross junior squad defeated St. James 52-41, avenging a loss to the Lions earlier in the year. The 11-point margin also gives the Royals the tiebreak edge; currently both teams are tied atop the standings with 6-2 records.
Curtis Gordon had 12 for a balanced Royal attack on Thursday; Keegan Feeney (20) and Alex Durigon (15) were the leading scorers for St. James.
