You usually don't win too many basketball games when your team scores 15 points.
That percentage probably drops even more drastically when you score 15 points AND your opponent is last year's CWOSSA "AAAA" silver medalist.
Of course, in junior basketball, what a difference a year can make.
The Monsignor Doyle Mustangs were able to grind their way to a 15-12 victory over St. Mary's today down in Cambridge to pick up their first win of the season.
The 'Stangs have had trouble on the offensive end so far on the season (now 25 points combined over 2 games), but have fared well on the defensive side of the floor, holding a good Resurrection squad in the 30s in their opener before only giving up the aforementioned dozen today.
Jade Loehle and Emily Field contributed 4 each for MDCSS, while Laura Kay led the Eagles and all scorers with 5. Linda Huynh chipped in 4 for St. Mary's.
In other action, also down in Cambridge, the St. Benedict Saints established themselves as an early contender for the D8 crown by torching the St. David Celtics 43-13, to start their season off 1-0.
Dana Melany had 18 big points for the Saints, while teammate Jessica Fish added 12. Shannon Pringle and Nicole Jamieson had 4 each for the Celtics.
