The Bluevale Knights established themselves as a clear contender for the WCSSAA Junior Girls' basketball crown this past weekend, as they knocked off another top WCSSAA team, the Jacob Hespeler Hawks, on their homecourt in a hard-fought 36-30 game to capture the title at the Jacob Hespeler Invitiational tournament.
The Knights (2008 WCSSAA champions, 2009 CWOSSA qualifier) have quietly established themselves as a legitimate junior girls program in a short period of time. Hannah Fishbein, whose sister Grace plays CIS basketball for Memorial University, had a game-high 16 points in the championship final.
The Hawks, meanwhile, are no slouches themselves. They returned a ton of talent from last year's 11-1 club, including star scorer Brooklynn Wright. JHSS, in fact, is looking for their first ever basketball championship (boys or girls) and seem to be one of the early contenders again this season.
