The Junior Vikes Celebrate Their Title |
Any way you slice it, the Waterloo CI Vikings pulled a "sweep" of the AAAA junior and senior championships for the third time in school history, defeating Brantford St. John's in both finals.
The junior Vikings, who dropped a tight game to St. John's in pool play, rebounded with some strong defense down the stretch of the championship to pick up the victory. Earlier, WCI upset CWOSSA #1 Grand River 35-33 in the semifinals to earn a spot in the championship game.
The senior Vikes went undefeated by rolling through Waterloo Region teams --- Kitchener Resurrection, Waterloo-Oxford and Bluevale --- en route to the title. They won the final by a 45-38 margin over St. John's, with 5th year guard Lindsay Taylor leading the way with a 16-point performance.
WCI and St. John's have become regulars in the senior girls' CWOSSA finals --- this year was WCI's 9th straight year in the AAAA final while St. John's has now made 10 straight appearances (split between AAA & AAAA).
Both WCI and St. John's should be "top eight" seeds at OFSAA when the seeding is released.
