The Renegades used their strong inside-outside presence, their ability to get out in transition and their lock-down defense to pull away to a 43-21 victory over the Elmira Lancers. The Lancers actually led 7-0 before the Rens went on an 8-0 run to take a lead that they would not relinquish.
Starting guard (grade 9) Maya Day led the way for Grand River, contributing 14 points while adding 5 rebounds and 2 assists. Grade 9 G/F Nyamuoch Teny added 12, while showing an adept shooting touch by connecting a couple of times from 3-point range.
Another grade 9, 6'0" F Tara DeBoer, was saddled with foul trouble throughout the afternoon but made both of her FG attempts for 4 points while collecting 4 rebounds.
Also hitting the scoresheet for Grand River were Breanna Senfner (3), Caroline Lorkovic (3), Tijana Abadzic (3), Nyasha Mombeshora (2), and Samantha Shantz (2).
On Elmira's side, Sydney Jones led the way with 8 points while Nicole Cressman notched 7 points and 5 rebounds. Kelsey Freeman (4 points + 8 rebounds) and Karley Sider (2 points + 10 rebounds) were the other Lancers to hit the scoresheet.
Grand River advances to the WCSSAA final on Wednesday at Preston (6:30pm). They will also participate in "AAAA" CWOSSA next weekend. Elmira's season is not over yet as they will advance to "AAA" CWOSSA this coming weekend.
