Some impressive performances were turned in by CWOSSA alums now playing south of the border over the weekend.
For starters, Bryson Johnson (St. David '09) hit 7 points in the final four minutes, including 2 clutch free-throws with about :10 left to help Bucknell upset Purdue on the road by a 70-65 final.
Johnson's free throws extended the Bison lead to 3; Purdue missed a three-pointer at the other end and Bucknell tacked on two more FTs for the final margin of victory.
Johnson played 37 of 40 minutes, putting home 14 points and adding 3 assists, 1 rebound and 1 steal (he also was turnover-free during his time on the floor).
Stefan Cvkralj (Bluevale '11) went 2-for-4 from the floor, including 2-for-3 from beyond the arc for 6 points in 18 minutes during Lehigh's 99-77 loss at #18 Baylor. Cvrkalj also added 2 rebounds.
Lehigh is back in action this evening against Robert Morris University.
Redshirt junior Murphy Burnatowski (REDA via Waterloo SJAM), making his Colgate debut after transferring from Maine, put up the most impressive stat line of the night by going off for 23 points in Colgate's 75-55 loss at Illinois.
Burnatowski, who hit 5 three-pointers during the game, went 8-for-14 from the floor while adding 4 rebounds, 4 steals, 1 assist and 2 blocks in 29 minutes of court time.
Women
On the women's side, Cleveland State senior Kaila Montgomery (WCI '08) hit for a career-high 7 points including her first collegiate three-pointer in a 60-46 CSU victory over South Dakota. Montgomery also added 4 rebounds and 1 assist in the win.
Kelly Van Leeuwen (St. John's '11) posted a nice 11-point, 7 rebound and 4 assist stat line in Niagara's 63-59 win over Robert Morris. She added 2 steals and a block while converting all 6 FT attempts on the evening.
Jenn Lennox (Forest Heights '10) was another CWOSSA "double digit" performer as she had 10 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists along with 4 blocks during Canisius' 73-57 win against Buffalo.
Freshman Michelle Hudyn (Eastwood '12) saw her first minute of collegiate action during Missouri's 67-51 win over St. Louis.
