WCSSAA Senior: WCI Stays Undefeated; Hold Tiebreak on All 1 Loss Teams

The WCI Vikings continued their winning ways on Thursday afternoon at WCI, fending off the up-and-coming Eastwood Rebels by a 50-32 final.

The Vikes were able to contain ECI star Michelle Hudyn, "holding her" to 14 points.  Lindsay Ward added 6 for Eastwood, while WCI was led by Lindsay Lessard (12) and Alyssa Shortt (10).

The loss drops Eastwood to 6-2 on the year, though it does look like they are still in good shape to secure a possible first-round bye.

Here's the rest of Thursday's games:

Cameron Heights 42, Bluevale 25
My Pick:  CHCI
The Gaels post an impressive road victory, and are now tied with the KCI Raiders for 2nd place in the WCSSAA standings.  CHCI's balanced effort was featured by Liz McLellan (11), Lauren Cowie (10) and Erin Robbins (7).  For Bluevale, Donna Cloes had 10 and Elissa Dent chipped in 6.

KCI 49, Waterloo-Oxford 32
My Pick:  KCI
Like the Gaels, the Raiders get their 7th win of the year by a 17-point margin.  Barbara Robertson led the way for KCI with 13; Kate McTavish added 10.  Carly Kowalik had 10 for WODSS, with Hope Eagleson adding 6.

Grand River 47, Forest Heights 45
My Pick:  GRCI
Grand River needed this one, and they got it ---- barely.  A couple of high scoring individual performances in this game as well:  Aileen MacLellan had 24 for the Rens, while Blair McNaughton had 22 for Forest Heights.

Jacob Hespeler 37, Glenview Park 36
My Pick:  JHSS
The Panthers nearly got their first win of the year, but fell by 1 to JHSS.  Sarah Guttin poured in 17 for Jacob Hespeler, while her teammate Amy Barnard had 8.  Glenview was led by Alyssa Goodridge (10) and Emily McLean (8).

Preston 44, Southwood 35
My Pick:  PHS
As I mentioned, this was a big game for Preston with WCI and KCI on deck next week.  They improve to 6-2 with the win, thanks to Nikea Worrell (14) and Kirsten Leach (12).  Nicole Barnard led Southwood with 12 and Emily Vandonk had 8 Sabre points.

Elmira 35, SJAM 30
My Pick:  EDSS
Big win for the Lancers as they improve to 4-4, while dropping SJAM back to 3-5.  Kaitie Martin had a nice game for Elmira, with 19 points; Jessica Reichard added in 9 herself.  The 'Landers received 10 from Malena McCrossan-Moses and 9 from Bronwyn Stevens.

Galt:  Default Win (HHHS)

Picks Record:  7-0
