We'll start our recap of yesterday's results on the junior side of things, where Lourdes guard Craig Valeriote had a playoff performance for the ages yesterday in guiding #5 Lourdes to a 63-45 win over #4 St. James.
Valeriote pumped home six three-pointers and 30 points in total, while teammate Alex Hudecki added 18 points as the Crusaders won by a surprising margin (their two league games were decided by single digits). Keegan Feeney (15) and Nick Marquis (10) were both in double-figures for the Lions.
The other games went as expected --- sort of.
The second-seeded Bishop Macdonell Celtics got all they could handle from winless (#7) Orangeville DSS before pulling out a 60-51 win. The Celts led 28-22 at the half and were able to maintain that edge through to the final buzzer.
Scoring details weren't immediately avaiable.
JF Ross (#3) took care of Centre Wellington (#6) 50-35, with Daniel Street's 15 points leading the way for Ross. Jake Grant added 10 for Ross, while Lucas Power had 12 for the Falcons.
As such, Thursday's semifinals will see #1 Centennial host #5 Lourdes, and #2 Bishop Macdonell playing host to #3 JF Ross.
JF Ross and Centennial will advance to the unofficial CWOSSA "AAAA" tournament.
Senior
The three homecourt teams all advanced through in D10 senior action on Tuesday.
The closest of the battles, as expected, saw #4 St. James squeeze past #5 Lourdes in a 56-50. The Lions were able to withstand a 23-point effort from Lourdes' Kevin Roche. Terrick Peru added 8 for Lourdes, while the victors received 14 from Quinn Feeney and 12 from Mitch Marquis.
#3 JF Ross defeated #6 Orangeville 58-41. Mike Friesen netted 16 while grade 11 rookie Andrew Folkerson added 13 for Ross; Kyle Holmes had 11 and Deysean Thompson 9 for the Bears.
The other quarterfinal saw Centennial (#2) defeat Centre Wellington (#7) 67-49. The Falcons had the game within single digits before the Spartans used a strong second-half surge to put that one away.
Those results mean that Centennial and JF Ross will advance through to the unofficial CWOSSA "AAAA" tournament. Bishop Macdonell is also through in "AA" as a result of the Lourdes loss.
Thursday's semifinals will see #1 Bishop Macdonell host #4 St. James and an all-AAAA battle between #2 Centennial and #3 JF Ross.
