Celtics, Phoenix at Ontario All-CatholicThe St. David Celtics went 1-2 and the Resurrection Phoenix 0-2 at the Ontario All-Catholic Junior Boys' Tournament in Hamilton over the weekend.
St. David dropped their opener to St. Francis (St. Catharines) 57-41 but rebounded to defeated Father Michael Goetz (Mississauga) 62-48 in round two. That win advanced them to the consolation semifinals, though they dropped a 61-43 game to hometown Cathedral HS.
Meanwhile, Resurrection was defeated by the tournament runners-up, Hamilton Brebeuf HS (11-0 in Hamilton Catholic this year) 57-31 in their opening game. They then ran into a hot-shooting Cardinal Newman team, also from Hamilton Catholic, and were on the short-end of a 62-35 game.
Several players from both teams were among the top scorers in the tournament, as Rez's Ali Rashid (10.0 PPG), and St. David's George Dumitru (13.0 PPG) and Alec Scheffler (10.7 PPG) all averaged in double-figures.
Of note, the winning school, Jean Vanier CHS of Richmond Hill will be in town this coming weekend at Resurrection CSS' Luke Santi Memorial Tournament, where they will be favoured to take home another tournament championship.

Saints Take Silver Flight in Windsor
Meanwhile, another D8 Junior Team, the St. Benedict Saints, went 3-1 in Windsor over the weekend to take the Silver Bracket title at Windsor Catholic Central.
The Saints defeated Windsor Brennan 62-26, before losing their second game to John Paul II from London (51-48). St. Benedict rebounded to defeat Windsor Assumption 53-44 and Ursuline (Chatham) 70-51 in their final two games.
Zubair Seyed was named as a first team all-star.
