Junior: Luke Santi Tournament Set For Tomorrow

Three CWOSSA teams will be among the eight participants at the 23rd annual Resurrection CSS Invitational / Luke Santi Memorial Tournament held this coming weekend at Kitchener Resurrection.

The tournament is now in its sixth year as its current name, which was changed to honour former RCSS student (and junior basketball player) Luke Santi, who passed away in 2007 following a courageous battle with cancer.

This year's tournament again features several talented teams, with the favourites being Jean Vanier (Richmond Hill), arguably one of the top junior teams in the province.  The Jaguars took the title at last weekend's Ontario All-Catholic tournament over a field that included such schools as D'Youville & Campion (Brampton), Brebeuf & St. Thomas More (Hamilton), and this year's Junior Rimrocker Champions, Bishop Reding (Milton).

CWOSSA participants include the host Phoenix and Guelph schools Bishop Macdonell and Our Lady of Lourdes.  Rounding out the field of eight are St. Thomas Aquinas (London), St. Michael CSS (Stratford), Sarnia St. Christopher and Sarnia St. Patrick's.

The first round draw is as follows for Friday:
8:30am - Resurrection vs. Bishop Macdonell
10:00am - St. Mike's vs. St. Christopher
11:30am - St. Patrick's vs. St. Thomas Aquinas
2:30pm - Jean Vanier vs. St. Patrick's

The tournament is an "OFSAA style" format with first round winners playing first-round losers in the second round.  Play continues throughout the day Friday and Saturday, with the championship final scheduled for Saturday at 4:30pm.
