The Junior St. Mary's Eagles and St. Benedict Saints, the current top two teams in the D8 league, faced some tough competition this weekend at the 4th Annual "Campion Junior Boys Classic".
Each team was placed in a three-team pool, with the winner advancing to the semifinals and the second and third-place team each getting a friendly game against a 2nd or 3rd place team in another pool.
The Eagles dropped their opener to the host Campion Bears (48-35) but rebounded to get past Gonzaga (Mississauga) 60-54 in OT. This placed the Eagles second in their pool, and gave them a third game against ACMT (Hamilton), who defeated St. Mary's by a 66-55 final.
St. Benedict meanwhile, dropped both of their pool games by single digits, first to Burlington Assumption (50-42) and then to Michael Power/St. Joseph's (Toronto) 58-53.
The Saints' third game was against Cardinal McGuigan (Toronto) where they pulled out a 57-47, backed by a 16-point effort from Alex Douglas.
The two hosts, Campion and D'Youville, played in an all-Brampton championship final with Campion coming away victorious by a 59-48 final.
