D10: Thursday Update

Due to CCVI/Lourdes playing on Wednesday, there were only three games in both the junior and senior leagues on Wednesday.

Only one 'mild' upset --- 6th place GCVI defeated 4th place Centre Wellington at home 60-51. This prevents the Falcons from clinching the 4th seed in the D10 standings.

Also note --- the D10 league is now on "exam hiatus" until February.

Here goes with the senior scores:

St. James 60, Orangeville 31
My Pick Was: STJ

The Lions lock up the 2nd seed thanks in part to some contributions from guys not named Ryan Higgins. Justin Marleau (10), Konrad Babol (10) and Kenny Hasson (9) led a balanced attack. Gordon Dewar chipped in 10 for ODSS.

JF Ross 65, Bishop Mac 38
My Pick Was: JFR

Evan Karl hit for 20 points as the Royals essentially sew up the #3 seed for the playoffs. Nigel Dyer replied with 15 for BMac. JF Ross needs just one win (likely their next game against ODSS) or a Centre Wellington loss to officially clinch third.

Guelph CVI 60, Centre Wellington 51
My Pick Was: CW

The GCVI gym is becoming a tough place to play for visiting teams. The Gaels had 3 players in double figures (Jon Warnholtz 14, Noman Yamini 12, James Ingram 12) in the win. The MacNamara boys (Justin - 17, Gavin - 13) combined for 30 Falcon points.

SENIOR STANDINGS
1. Centennial 12-0
2. St. James 10-2
3. JF Ross 8-4
4. Centre Wellington 6-6
5. GCVI 5-7
6. Lourdes 5-7
7. Bishop Mac 2-10
8. Orangeville 0-12

Clinching News:
1. CCVI clinches first with a win, a St. James loss OR a loss to St. James in their league game by 12 or less.
2. St. James has clinched second place.
3. JF Ross clinches third with a win, a Centre Wellington loss OR a loss to CW in their league game by 9 points or less.

Other News:
I look for Lourdes (who have BMac & ODSS remaining) to overtake GCVI (who have BMac & CCVI remaining) for 5th spot. They might even be able to slide into 4th if CW loses both their remaining games (Ross & St. James).

Junior D10

St. James 49 Orangeville 20
No trouble for the Lions here. Marcus Willock led St. James with 13 points, while Kyle Holmes had 6 for the Bears.

Bishop Mac 74, JF Ross 58
In a high-scoring affair, the Celts remain undefeated in junior play. Alex Quintieri (19), Mitchell Wood (16) and Michael Clouthier (15) led the balanced attack while Michael Friesen and Nick Maule had 18 each for Ross.

GCVI 46, Centre Wellington 36
Aaron Loder continued his fine play for the improving Gaels with 15 points. Travis Laitar was the lone Falcon in double digits with 11 points.

Junior Standings:
1. Bishop Mac 12-0
2. Lourdes 11-1
3. St. James 7-5
4. Centennial 7-6
5. JF Ross 5-7
6. GCVI 4-9
7. Centre Wellington 3-9
8. Orangeville 0-12

.....big upcoming game right after the break (February 4th) between Lourdes & Bishop Mac.

.....things are going to be pretty muddled in the middle of the standings. I look for Ross to win their final two games, but CCVI has the inside edge for 4th spot.
