WCSSAA Senior: Midseason Review

Here's a midseason review of the senior ranks:

First-Team All-Stars
Stefan Cvrkalj (Bluevale)
Ben Reyhani (SJAM)
Jeff Robinson (Preston)
Stefan Arezina (Cameron Heights)
Arben Kalaba (KCI)

Second-Team All-Stars
Jake Robinet (SJAM)
Taylor McNaughton (Forest Heights)
Jasper Wesson (WCI)
Brody Verbiski (Grand River)
Brian Doran (Southwood)
Andrew Beney (Bluevale)

(Positive) Surprise Team
The Preston Panthers, hands down. The Panthers are 4-2 and could very easily be 6-0 --- an early season slip-up at Elmira and a three-point loss to GRCI were their only setbacks. They have, meanwhile, a big win over fellow AAA school KCI (on the road). Jeff Robinson, Chris Ackie, and Abe Upshaw have been leading the way for the upstart Panthers.

Preston does have a tough upcoming schedule --- including Southwood, Forest Heights and Cameron Heights before the exam break......so it will be interesting to see if they can hold on and have a home playoff game in Cambridge.

(Negative) Surprise Team
The FHCI Trojans & Grand River Renegades have not (thus far) lived up to the preseason hype. Perhpas the Trojans have now turned things around with a huge win over KCI. As for the Renegades, they have the top rookie around in Brody Verbiski but might just be a year or so away. Still a very dangerous team come playoff time if they get hot from the outside.

Team to Look Out For
Cameron Heights. The Gaels lost their first two to SJAM & Bluevale but have now reeled off 4 straight wins. They don't have an "easy" schedule down the stretch (WCI, KCI, GPSS, PHS, FHCI, GRCI!) but I look for them to end up in the top 4 when it's all said and done.

Honourable Mention: Glenview Park. Many wrote off the Panthers after an 0-4 start but they've rebounded nicely with a couple of wins.

Second Half Predictions
WCSSAA is basically Bluevale's to lose. The Knights have a relatively soft schedule (at least in comparison to others) and should finish 1st at 12-0.

After Bluevale & SJAM, it should get pretty interesting. You have about 7 clubs that can be competitive on any given night and the 5-8 finishers should be able to give the 1-4 clubs a game in the quarterfinals. Like the junior ranks, "Semifinal Saturday" should be one of the better ones in years.

Projected AAAA Participants: Bluevale & SJAM
Projected AAA Participants: Southwood, KCI, Preston
