WCSSAA Junior: Midseason Review

Senior to follow. Here's a midseason review of the junior ranks. Keep in mind this is based upon league play & results:

First-Team All-Stars
Javon Masters (Forest Heights)
Filip Cvrkalj (Grand River)
Sean Samuel (Huron Heights)
Vedran Dmitrovic (Cameron Heights)
Quinn Turner (SJAM) --- have to have one guy from the 5-0 Highlanders on the first team and Turner has stepped up huge in the absence of Berry & Bradley.

Second-Team All-Stars
Jason Quiring (Jacob Hespeler)
Andrew Squires (Glenview Park)
Juwan Miller (Forest Heights)

Nem Simic (Cameron Heights)
Wes Meertens (Preston)
Jacob Ranton (Waterloo CI)

(Positive) Surprise Team
Jacob Hespeler Hawks. Currently at 4-2 and in 6th place in the league (and in line for a CWOSSA berth). Getting solid performances from a few different sources, including Jason Quiring (who scored 67 points in 2 games last week).

(Negative) Surprise Team
Things are pretty much going to form in the WCSSAA junior league, so I can't really say that any team falls into this category. Yes, Grand River is 3-3 but those losses have come to the upper echelon of teams.

Team to Look Out For
Eastwood Rebels. After 4 losses to top teams (WCI, Grand River, Cameron Heights, Forest Heights) the Rebs have also defeated a couple "middle of the pack" clubs in Glenview Park and Jacob Hespeler. Definitely the best 2-4 club out there.

Second Half Predictions
Parity, parity, parity. Those are the three words to describe the WCSSAA schedule to this point in the season. You've had Huron Heights over WCI, Cameron over Huron Heights, WCI over Forest Heights, SJAM over Cameron, etc., etc.

Essentially, any of the top teams can beat each other on any given day --- there is no 'clear cut' favourite at this point in time, although SJAM & Forest Heights have looked like the top clubs. A lot will be dependent on how the seeds shake down for the playoffs......

Regardless, this will be one of the best quarterfinal & semifinal playoffs in recent memory --- especially with only 2 "AAAA" CWOSSA berths up for grabs.

Projected AAAA Participants: SJAM & Forest Heights
Projected AAA Participants: Huron Heights, Jacob Hespeler, Glenview Park

Instead of Simic CHCI my picks are Jason Thompson CHCI or T from SJAM

  2. Both are excellent players and were definitely in consideration but based upon league results I decided to go with Simic.

Connor Bradley or Theshawn Berry would probably make the list at the end of the season but because they've only played a couple of games until know, went with the above.
