WCSSAA Senior: Lancers Shock Renegades

Yes, the Elmira Lancers have been playing some competitive basketball lately. Today, they pulled off a big upset of the Grand River Collegiate Renegades and got themselves right back in the playoff hunt.

The Lancers (now 2-7) eked out a 61-58 victory over Grand River. Tim Gromeder led the way and joined the 20+ club with 20 on the button. Eric Alderice added 17 and Scott Albrecht netted 15 for Elmira.

Osama Qahwash was the high man for GRCI with 22. Brodi Verbiski chipped in 15.

Earlier this year, the Lancers defeated another solid team---Preston----for their other win. Needless to say there are some teams who are definitely hoping that the Lancers don't sneak their way into the playoffs.

For those with EDSS remaining on their schedule, you've been warned.

In other games, scores were:
Forest Heights 58 Preston 42
My Pick Was: PHS

Went with the homecourt Panthers and the Trojans put on a defensive display. Taylor McNaughton (19) and Srdjan Stanivuk (14) led the way. Jeff Robinson led Preston with 13 points.

SJAM 58, Southwood 36
My Pick Was: SJAM

A little surprised by the margin, but like the Trojans it looks like the 'Landers brought their defensive "A" game today. Top scorers for SJAM were rookies Edem Ame (17) and Ben Reyhani (16). Brian Doran led Southwood with 9.

KCI 61, Waterloo-Oxford 53
My Pick Was: KCI

The Raiders have yet another game in single digits, this time coming away with the victory at the expense of WODSS. Arben Kalaba chipped in a game-high 17 points for KCI, while Patrick Connors and Eric Wooley had 10 each for the Crusaders.

Cameron Heights 56, Glenview Park 35
My Pick Was: CHCI

Looks like the bench got some work for CHCI today --- as Stefan Arezina was nowhere to be seen among the leading scorers. Nebojsa Djeric (19) and Brandon Murphy (7) led the way today. Mark Saris had 12 for Glenview.

Eastwood 55, Huron Heights 46
My Pick Was: ECI

A balanced Rebel attack accounted for 45 points (Steffon Heyliger - 20, Zaman Sindy & Gondor Teny - 15 each) as Eastwood stays in the playoff hunt. Ramis Khan (11) and Shayan Butt (10) were high scorers for the Huskies.

Bluevale 56, Galt 24
My Pick Was: BCI

No trouble as expected for the shorthanded Knights. Stefan Cvrkalj (18) and Perrin Smith (10) outscored Galt by themselves. Gabe Vidal (12 points) had a nice game for Galt in a losing effort.

Waterloo 46, Jacob Hespeler 26
My Pick Was: WCI

I'm thinking that WCI belongs in the D8 league with their defensive, grind-it-out style. All kidding aside, don't look know but the Vikes are 8-1. Jasper Wesson (10) led WCI while Joel Perkins had 7 for the Hawks.

grand was playing without three of their starters due to injury and only had two subs the whole game cut them a little slack
