We know who the #1 team is in CWOSSA, but what about #2?
....or #3, #4 and #5 for that matter?
Following yesterday's Cameron Heights win over Grand River, and the knowledge that Grand River star Nyamuoch Teny will undergo season-ending surgery next week, things are certainly up for grabs following the Green Eagles.
Kitchener Resurrection made a case this past weekend at the Jacob Hespeler tournament, posting a win over SJAM in the tournament finals.
JF Ross of Guelph is also in the discussion, having rolled through their first five league games by an average winning margin of nearly 30 points per game.
If their shooting is on, the SJAM Highlanders have the ability to be considered among the top couple of CWOSSA teams, while the Cameron Heights Golden Gaels have now put the rest of CWOSSA on notice.
Here goes:
1. St. John's College / Brantford (1)
No surprise here. The Green Eagles pushed the #1 team in Ontario, Hamilton St. Mary's, in the championship final of the St. Mary's Tipoff, falling by just 3 points.
2. John F. Ross CVI / Guelph (3)
The Royals have been rolling through D10 play to this point, having defeated all 5 teams they've played by double-digits (and an average of 30 points per game).
3. Resurrection CSS / Kitchener (4)
Winners of the JHSS tournament, the Phoenix stumbled -- but still beat -- St. Benedict at home following that on Monday. A more impressive performance might have moved them up to #2, but they're still in the discussion.
4. Grand River CI / Kitchener (2)
Next week will be Nyamuoch Teny's last week in action, before scheduled surgery October 19th. These rankings are, of course, based on the body of work to date, but the Rens are certainly going to be under the microscope.
5. Sir John A. MacDonald / Waterloo (5)
No change for the 'Landers, who lost to Resurrection (but defeated Cameron Heights) at the Jacob Hespeler tournament.
6. Cameron Heights CI / Kitchener (6)
Sitting at 5-0 in league now after yesterday's come-from-behind win, the Gaels look like a team that could run the rest of their schedule, especially as they avoid SJAM, a team they lost to this past weekend down in Cambridge. Definitely a club to keep an eye on.
7. North Park CVS / Brantford (7)
It's going to be a pretty interesting race for the second "AAA" CWOSSA berth from Brantford; the Trojans have given themselves the inside edge heading into the second half of the league schedule.
8. Assumption College / Brantford (8)
The Lions are right there with the Trojans in the Brantford discussion; a slim loss in their opener means that home advantage in the playoffs is still up for grabs.
9. Bishop Macdonell HS / Guelph (9)
Solid wins in league play this past week have the Celtics back at #9 again this week.
10 (Tie). Guelph CVI / Guelph (10)
With the JF Ross Royals being the only team that the Gaels have not yet faced, next week's contest may tell us a lot as to how good the Gaels are.
10 (Tie). St. Benedict CSS / Cambridge (NR)
Will give the Saints some props for pushing Cameron Heights and winning the consolation side at the JHSS Tourney. They followed that up by nearly getting a road upset at Resurrection in league play.
On the Radar: Jacob Hespeler, WCI.
