Another year, another Heinbuch classic that will finish without a WCSSAA champion. After St. David, Centennial, and KCI lost their first round games, it was up to Bluevale and SJAM to try and get their way to the gold semifinals.
However, Emery withstood 31 points from Bluevale's Stefan Cvrkalj and defeated Bluevale 72-57. At the St. Mary's gym, Oakwood cruised past Waterloo SJAM 69-44. SJAM transfer Matthias Hamm led the Highlanders with 17 points.
Second round action on the consolation side of the bracket saw the Guelph Centennial Spartans advance to bronze action on Saturday with a convincing 55-37 victory over London Westminster. Jay Francis netted 17 in the winning effort.
KCI and St. David will play in the Consolation portion of the bracket after both were defeated in their second-round games. KCI was defeated 65-49 by Sarnia St. Christopher's. Arben Kalaba scored 17 points after netting 24 in KCI's noon 71-63 loss to Mother Teresa.
St. David lost to Toronto Emery 60-50. Daniel Hummel had 18 for the Celtics.
