The St. Mary's Eagles defeated the St. David Celtics by a 50-35 score in D8 senior girls' action on Monday; with the win, the Eagles remain as the only undefeated team left in the league.
Laura Boterman put home 14 points, while Alyshia Hergott added in 11 for the winners en route to the victory. For the home side, Katie Watson was the lone Celtic in double figures with 10; teammate Emily Brown chipped in 8 points.
With the win, the Eagles improve to 3-0, with all those wins coming against teams that many feel will be the other 3 playoff teams at year's end --- Resurrection, Monsignor Doyle and St. David. They have won each of those contests by at least 15 points.
In the other senior game on Monday, the Doyle Mustangs had little trouble with their cross-town rivals, as they dispatched St. Benedict by a 48-29 final. Alisa Tkaczyk (18) and Sam Edwards (17) were a solid one-two punch on Monday afternoon for the Mustangs.
In Monday's junior action, the St. Mary's Eagles got a much needed victory at the hands of the St. David Celtics, defeating them by a 35-17 final to get their first win of the season. At time of this post, scoring details were unavailable from source.
The other junior game saw the St. Benedict Saints, arguably the favourite in the D8 junior circuit, thump the Doyle Mustangs to the tune of 57-19. Though the Saints' scoring details were unavailable, we can tell you that Taylor Fitzpatrick (6) and Jade Loehle (5) led the way for Doyle.
