AAAA Senior Game #6: Centre Wellington 65, St. John's 53

The Centre Wellington DHS Falcons advanced through to the AAAA senior boys' basketball semifinals on Saturday evening by posting a 65-53 win over the St. John's Green Eagles of Brantford.

Both schools entered the game with a loss to Waterloo SJAM, so the winner of the game was guaranteed second place in "Pool B".

The Falcons led throughout, including 35-27 at halftime, but the Eagles did get within 2 (39-37) in the third after a three-pointer by JP Yurcich.  CWDHS, though, closed that quarter on an 11-6 run and would maintain their lead throughout the fourth quarter, where turnovers (even many that were unforced) plagued the SJC offense.

The funniest moment occurred during the end of the game where, while emptying the bench with under 1:30 to go, coach Jeff Brubacher only subbed in four Falcons.  CWDHS didn't realize the error until the action was down at their defensive end, and Yurcich was able to hit a three during the brief "power play".

For CW, Reid Goindi hit four three-pointers en route to a 21-point outing.  Tim Francis added 19, while Wade Uhrig had 12.  Gavin McNamara (5), Jacob Hewitt-Smith (4) and Marcus Von Massow (2) rounded out the CW scoring.

St. John's received 19 from Yurcich and 18 from Tyler Van Leeuwen.  Tim Dawson (5), Jake Brennan (4), Arthur Kogut (4), Cam Post (2) and Eric Drescher (1) were also on the scoresheet for the Eagles.
