As expected in a very competitive WCSSAA senior circuit this year, several lower seeded squads advanced through to Thursday's quarterfinal action. I'll jump right to it:
(5) Jacob Hespeler 63, (12) Glenview Park 60
My Pick: JHSS by 22
What was that I said about "expecting a closer game" this time around (compared to the 40-point shellacking in their last regular season meeting)? Well, this one was even closer than I anticipated as the Panthers nearly became the first #12 seed in WCSSAA boys history to win a qualifying playoff game. Sean Davidson (18) and Erist Wame (14) topped the GPSS scoresheet, while Jason Quiring had 25 and Lucas Marsden 12 for Hespeler.
(6) SJAM 48, (11) Bluevale 38
My Pick: SJAM by 7
Ben Reyhani had a strong first-quarter en route to a 20-point performance, while Theshawn Barry had 13 as the 'Landers extended a 19-11 halftime lead to 30-14 in the first 4:00 of the second half and didn't look back. Ian Farquharson had 11 while Perrin Smith, playing in his final high school game, had 8.
(10) Cameron Heights 58, (7) Preston 56
My Pick: CHCI by 6
The Gaels win a thriller of a game, although it certainly could have gone either way --- PHS had possession of the ball down one point with :30 to play. Vedran Dmitrovic just wouldn't let it happen though, as he poured in 30 points with Nem Simic adding 11 more for Cameron. Sean Holmes had 21 and Wes Meertens 15 for Preston.
(9) Huron Heights 62, (8) WODSS 61
My Pick: HHHS by 4
Sean Samuel had another big playoff performance, pouring in 28 points as the Huskies squeaked past the Crusaders on the road. Darcy Jacobs added 11, while Jesse Dodgson (17), Kyle Weber (16) and Chris Thomson (14) were the top WO performers.
Mark's Note: The above results mean that Galt Collegiate, Jacob Hespeler, and Huron Heights have officially qualified for AAA CWOSSA. Congratulations to those teams!

As expected, the Rebs had no trouble advancing through to the quarters. Ousmane Kromah had 14 and Izzy Nemeth 12 in the win, while Colton Quigley had a team-high 6 for the Sabres.
(6) Huron Heights vs. (11) KCI - Postponed
Huron was up 9-8 with 2:00 left in the first quarter when the power went out at HHSS. So this one has been rescheduled to today. Not sure if they'll just pick things up from there, or if they'll replay the whole game as of yet. So, stay tuned for more details.
(7) SJAM 40, (10) Elmira 30
My Pick: SJAM by 22
My Pick: SJAM by 22
The pace was slow in this one and the Lancers hung around, but didn't have enough to get past the Highlanders. Nedim Hodzic led the way for SJAM with 15, while Jan Willem Scheele had 9. Jordan Frey (10) and Callum Johnson (6) topped the Lancer scoring.
(9) Preston 53, (8) Forest Heights 51
My Pick: FHCI by 13
To quote my column from yesterday, "despite the score of the first game, this could potentially go either way....or at least be a bit closer". It definitely was the former as the Panthers pulled the mild upset. Tanner Derjugin had a nice outing, finishing with 20, while Ryan Mitchell added 11 for Preston. Killy Cuppage had 13 and Ryan Hagey 10 for FHCI.Junior QFs - Thursday
