D10 Tuesday: Ross, Lourdes Secure Top Two Senior Spots

They didn't bother leaving things until the last minute.

The Ross Royals and Lourdes Crusaders officially clinched 1st and 2nd place respectively in the D10 standings on Tuesday night, with the Royals posting a big road win at Orangeville (80-22) and the Crusaders comfortably getting past the CWDHS Falcons (66-51).

The loss was crushing for the Falcons, who now must hope that they can either beat JF Ross on Thursday, or that the Spartans lose to Bishop Mac.  Otherwise, they will slip to 4th in the standings with CCVI finishing 3rd --- crucial in terms of the semifinal match-ups and potential CWOSSA "AAAA" qualifying.

Here are the results from Tuesday:

JF Ross 80, Orangeville 22
No scoring details were available, but the Royals cruised as expected here.

Bishop Mac 62, St. James 48
The win locked up 5th place in the standings for the Celts, who got a nice 24-point outing from Jesse Kendall.  Sean Young added 13 for BMAC, while Zach McClenaghan (18) and Ron Kinga (12) paced the Lions.

Centennial 57, GCVI 27
The Spartans easily handled the 1-win Gaels on the road on Tuesday, setting up the potential (as mentioned) for them to leapfrog CWDHS in the standings.  Aleks Kaludjerovic paced the CCVI attack with 15, while Erik Sterne added 13.  Jonah Hopkins led the GCVI scoring with 14.

Lourdes 66, CWDHS 51
Mike Finoro had a game-high 27 points as the Crusaders won comfortably on the road.  Sharieff Peru added 13 for OLOL, while Tim Francis (18) and Reid Goindi (12) were the CWDHS high scorers.

Junior

Bishop Mac 59, St. James 54
The Celtics might be peaking at the right time as they got past St. James (after beating them in the STJ tournament final on Saturday) again.  Michael Ganson netted 17 and Mathew Butts 15 for the Celts, while Quinn Feeney had a game-high 20 for the Lions and Joey Hasson added 15.

CWDHS 44, Lourdes 30
Speaking of teams playing their best basketball of the season, the CWDHS Falcons took out the Lourdes Crusaders at home, with Josh McEachern (18) and James Scott (14) pacing the way.  Craig Valeriote had 13 and David Khayipangi 8 for the Crusaders.

Centennial 48, GCVI 43
An important win for the Spartans, as they stay alive for the race for a home playoff game.  Now, the winner of the CCVI-BMAC game on Thursday will take 4th spot.  Zaigham Ali had a game-high 20 to lead the way for CCVI, while Ian Suarez (10) and Slobodan Glibo (8) were tops on the GCVI scoresheet.

JF Ross 61, Orangeville 15
Greg Schwann put home 11 points as this one was never in doubt.  Unfortunately for the Bears, they'll be seeing the Royals again in the quarterfinals next week.
