The D8 junior race got a lot more interesting on Wednesday afternoon.
Lucas Cardoso's buzzer beating jump shot (seen below) was the difference as the St. Benedict Saints got past the St. Mary's Eagles by a 48-46 final in Cambridge.
Cardoso finished with 8 points, while Alex Douglas (14) and Justin Malnerich (9) also provided notable performances for the Saints.
Adham Eleeda (11) and Barnaba Neil (10) topped the scoresheet for St. Mary's, with Jason Jaros adding 7.
The win means that St. Benedict and St. Mary's split their season series (1-1), although the Eagles do have a +/- advantage having won by 17 points in December at home.
St. Benedict is now 2-1 against St. Mary's on the season, having also defeated them at the SJAM Highlander Hoopla tournament earlier last month.
Resurrection was victorious in the other game on Wednesday (MDCSS/RMC was postponed), by playing some stingy defense in a 66-26 win over St. David.
Ali Rashid had 17 points for Rez, with Shaquille Amos adding 10 and Jordan Kenning notching 7. John Winnett (8) led SDCSS, with Brent Lasovich and Kyle Enrique notching 5.
