Silver Fox: Eagles Roll; Gaels & Trojans Drop First Games

All 3 CWOSSA teams were in action yesterday evening on an abbreviated first day of the annual Silver Fox basketball tournament in Hamilton.

Not all 24 teams played yesterday, but everyone's in action starting today (games, in fact, have already tipped off).  Once pool play is completed, teams will move on to another "pool play" system based upon their standing (1st, 2nd, or 3rd in their pool).

As for yesterday's action, the Kitchener St. Mary's Eagles put on a show and were the lone CWOSSA team to pull out a victory, defeating Oakville Loyola by a 77-48 final score.

Tesloth Simon poured in 38 points, including 28 -- yes, 28 -- in the first half alone.

St. Mary's second and final pool game will be against Thornlea, a team that moved past them in the most recent NorthPoleHoops.com "Top 25" national ranking.  The Eagles are 21st, while Thornlea sits in 19th.

Meanwhile, both North Park and Cameron Heights ended up on the losing end of their games.

The Trojans dropped a 58-48 decision to Stoney Creek's Saltfleet SS, despite a game-high 19 points from Matt Minutillo.  North Park will play Windsor's Herman SS today.

As for Cameron Heights, they went up against the Korah SS Colts of Sault Ste. Marie and their 6'11"/300lb. big man Jonah Fogg.  Fogg contributed 19 points in Korah's 64-56 victory.  Sasha Simic netted 18 for the Gaels.

That game was actually tied 54-54 with about 4:00 to go before the Colts closed on a 10-2 run.

Cameron Heights will play St. Theresa (Midland) this morning in their second pool game.

Other scores from yesterday:
Oakville Holy Trinity 64, Chatham Kent 31
Burlington Nelson 84, Hamilton Westmount 57
Cardinal Newman (StCrk) 57, Bishop Reding (Milton) 40
