Junior: Semifinals Set At Purple & Gold

The semifinals are set for tomorrow at the Resurrection/Huron Heights "Purple and Gold" tournament in Kitchener.

On the championship side, the first semifinal will pit the host Phoenix against Bluevale Collegiate, while the other semifinal will see SJAM take on Saltfleet (Stoney Creek).

All four Brantford schools are through to the consolation semifinals; it will be Assumption taking on St. John's and Brantford CI battling North Park.

On the Resurrection side of the bracket, the CWOSSA-#3 ranked Phoenix had little difficulty in their first two games, handling Forest Heights (59-24), and St. Basil from Sault Ste. Marie 77-32, backed by 22 points from Ali Rashid.

As mentioned, Rez will play Bluevale in tomorrow's first semifinal; the Knights overcame an early 15-2 deficit to defeat Cameron Heights 49-43.  The Gaels had defeated St. John's (38-37) and Bluevale knocked off St. David (38-35) in their opening games.

St. John's defeated St. David (49-35) and Assumption got past Forest Heights (39-31) on the consolation side of the bracket in games played at Rez.

Over at Huron Heights, Saltfleet needed overtime to get past the Grand River Renegades in the second round, with the Storm pulling out a 69-67 win despite 25 points from GRCI's Aleks Cvrkalj.  Saltfleet had knocked off Huron Heights (53-32) while Grand River dominated North Park (66-33) in opening round games.

The other quarterfinal at Huron saw SJAM have an easier time with Eastwood than they did on Thursday, pulling away from the Rebels in a 72-47 final.  SJAM topped Brantford CI (53-25), while Eastwood knocked off London Banting (58-33) in the first round.

On the consolation side at Huron Heights, North Park edged Huron Heights (43-39), while Brantford CI edged London Banting in a 35-33 thriller.
