In the most important game of the season, the "big three" of the St. James Lions were at their best.
Keegan Feeney, Nick Marquis, and Alex Durigon combined for 73 points as the Lions took home the "AAA" CWOSSA junior crown last night at Our Lady of Lourdes High School, 86-67 over Waterloo St. David.
The win marks "back to back" official CWOSSA titles for the Lions, who were also junior champions in 2012.
The game was a rematch of last year's "unofficial" CWOSSA final, and, like last year's game (won by St. David 79-52), there were certainly no shortage of points put up on the scoreboard.
The Lions actually put up 22 points in the first quarter and 49 points in the first half, but were unable to totally shake the Celtics who managed 38 of their own in the opening sixteen minutes.
St. James extended their lead to 16 after three quarters, and, after St. David had cut the lead to 12 midway through the final frame, the Lions were able to gradually pull away down the stretch.
Feeney finished with an impressive 36-point performance, while Marquis added 19 and Durigon scored 18.
St. David also had three players in double-figures: Mason Cumming (24), John McElroy (19) and Brent Lasovich (11).
Semifinals were played earlier in the day on Monday, with St. James cruising past Cambridge Preston HS 63-34, and St. David topping Cambridge Jacob Hespeler 49-39.
