Senior
Not a lot of excitement in the D10 senior quarterfinals on Monday, as the top 4 seeds all advanced through with the smallest margin of victory being 29 points. Here's a quick rundown:
(1) JF Ross 73, (8) Orangeville 36
My Pick: JFR by 32
Tommy Yanchus had 17 and Ryan Stulp added 16 as the Royals won this game and, by virtue of Centennial's loss, also earned D10's CWOSSA "play in game" berth at the AAAA level. Deysean Evans had 17 in the loss for ODSS.
(2) Bishop Mac 82, (7) Guelph CVI 52
My Pick: BMAC by 26
Jesse Kendall (23) and Adam MacEachern (22) paced four Celtics in double-figures as they handled the Gaels on Monday. David Wesley-James (17) and Spencer Swan (13) led the way for GCVI.
(3) Lourdes 63, (6) Centennial 34
My Pick: OLOL by 11
David Khayipangi had 15 and Craig Valeriote added 12 in a big win for Lourdes at home. Mark Shinouda (12) and Chris Jin (9) were the top Spartan performers.
(4) St. James 58, (5) CWDHS 24
My Pick: STJ by 23
Joey Hasson scored 14 and Mitch Marquis added 12 for the Lions, who secured D10's "AAA" CWOSSA berth. Ty Uhrig had 6 for the Falcons.
Semifinals - Wednesday
(3) Lourdes at (2) Bishop Mac
(4) St. James at (1) JF Ross
Junior
A little more excitement --- as we expected --- on the junior side, although no significant upsets. Here's a look:
(1) JF Ross 59, (8) Guelph CVI 423
My Pick: JFR by 16
The Royals made sure that nobody would remember them for being the team to lose an "8-1" playoff game (despite a wild year in D10); Curtis Gordon did his part with a 23-point effort and Nate Berry added 10 for JFR. Kyle Kush (12) and Lincoln Rosebush (10) were the top Gael scorers.
(2) St. James 64, (7) CWDHS 37
My Pick: STJ by 13
After playing a couple of "reasonably close" games during the regular season, the Lions had a great effort on Monday to win this one going away. Alex Durigon (20) and Keegan Feeney (19) led the way for the Lions, while Eli Hesse had 11 and Graham Wilmot 10 for the Falcons.
(3) Centennial 52, (6) Bishop Mac 51
My Pick: CCVI by 12
I was certainly expecting this one to be closer than their regular season meetings --- and it definitely was, with the Spartans nipping the Celts to move on to the semis. Jasmer Brar had 18 and Tommy Nield 10 for CCVI; Greg MacEachern scored 15 and Jack Morris 12 for BMAC.
(5) Lourdes 50, (4) Orangeville 41
My Pick: ODSS by 8
The lone "upset" as far as the rankings were concerned in D10 play yesterday; Sean Gade led the way with 17 for Lourdes while Nigel Carey-Kochan had 18 for ODSS.
Semifinals - Wednesday
(3) Centennial at (2) St. James
(5) Lourdes at (1) JF Ross
