The top two teams are through to the finals in the D4 Senior Boys' basketball loop, although the top seed, Wellington Heights, had their work cut out for them on Tuesday.
The Wolverines (9-1) barely held off 4th place Westside SS (4-6) in a defensive battle, 30-28. Avery Bilton had 9 for the Wolverines, while Connor Clark scored 10 for the Thunder.
#2 Norwell handled #3 Centre Dufferin in the other semifinal, 64-39. Tory Langille put home 24 points for the Redmen, with Eric MacDonald adding 13. Silas Sales scored 16 for CDDHS.
Junior
On the junior side, undefeated Westside cruised past Wellington Heights 57-15, with three players scoring in double-figures to pace the Thunder.
#2 Centre Dufferin was also a winner, 37-25 over Norwell. CDDHS' Brendan Lyver was the game's high scorer with a 14-point effort.
BAA
Quarterfinal action also got underway yesterday in the BAA.
On the junior side (North Division), top teams St. Mary's and Georgian Bay were victorious in their opening round games.
St. Mary's took out West Hill by a 60-21 final, with Hugh Weichel leading the way (16 points).
Georgian Bay was a 57-37 winner over Peninsula Shores; Tristan Hill had 17 for GBSS while the Phoenix were led by Hudson Cook (13).
Over in senior action, St. Mary's (#2 - North / 8-2) outlasted Georgian Bay (#3 - North / 5-5) by a 44-42 score, with Harry Weichel scoring the winning points from the FT line with just :07 left in the game. Weichel and Lucas Rintoul both had 11 points for St. Mary's, while Franklin Vickers also scored 11 for GBSS.
Top-seeded Owen Sound CVI took care of Grey Highlands in the other North Division quarterfinal 79-56. Nate Curry poured home 33 points in that one for OSCVI, while Riley Colville had 18 for Grey Highlands.
South Division playoff action tips off today --- on the senior side, Sacred Heart travels across town to Walkerton while Saugeen hosts Kincardine. In junior action, Kincardine will play at Saugeen and John Diefenbaker hosts Sacred Heart.
