Senior: Eagles (x2) At the Ontario All-Catholic Classic

Both the St. Mary's Eagles and the Brantford St. John's Green Eagles were in action this past weekend at the Ontario All-Catholic Senior Classic in St. Catharines.

In the opening round, St. Mary's overcame a double-digit halftime deficit in their game against St. Francis (St. Catharines), pulling out a 66-60 victory.  Tesloth Simon netted 25 for the Eagles in that one.

Meanwhile, St. John's came up on the losing end of an 80-42 decision to Brampton's Campion HS.  Zach Dawson had 13 points to lead the way for the Green Eagles.

In the second round, St. Mary's got a buzzer-beating three-pointer from Tesloth Simon --- part of his 13 points in the contest --- as the Eagles nipped Cardinal Newman (Stoney Creek) 62-59.

The Green Eagles also won their second game on the consolation side of the bracket, beating Corpus Christi (Burlington) 52-49.  Adrian Mendoza paced the Eagles with 17.

In semifinal action on Saturday, St. Mary's was unable to get their offense on track against Brampton D'Youville, falling by a 59-33 score in that one (Tyrick Thompson had 10 points to lead SMHS).

Chatham Ursuline took out Brantford St. John's 61-52 in the consolation semifinals; Jake Brennan was the leading SJC scorer with 18.

Two teams that our CWOSSA representatives played -- Campion & D'Youville -- played an exciting championship final that saw D'Youville win 50-49 in double overtime.
