Norfolk News: Wolves, Titans to Clash for NSSAA Title

It’ll be a Waterford Wolves versus Holy Trinity Titans double-header for the Norfolk County Secondary School Athletic Association basketball titles Friday.
                          
Both schools did their part to set up the matchups in their respective junior and senior semifinals Wednesday at Holy Trinity.
                          
The junior final begins at 6 p.m. Friday, with the senior game to follow at 7:30 p.m.
During the semifinals Wednesday, Corey MacLean scored 21 points to lead the senior Wolves to a 40-32 win over the Simcoe Sabres.
                          
Justin Nedrofsky was effective down in the paint netting eight, while Matt Couperus added seven. Caleb Girard and Freg Veszenyi each had three-pointers.
                          
Justin Gulley led the Sabres with 15 points, while Jordan Peever had nine.
                           
The third-place Wolves will take on the first-place Titans, who disposed of the fourth-seeded Delhi Raiders 51-29.
 
In the junior semifinals, the third-place Wolves knocked off the second-place Sabres 40-32.
 
An inspired defensive effort surged on the Wolves charge, while Logan Donaldson was opportunistic, scoring 23 points to lead the way offensively. Twelve of which were from beyond the arc.
 
While Donladson was the outside weapon, Nick Howard was potent in the paint, scoring nine. Mike Cooper scored five, and WarrenVanLoon added three.
 
Blake Pow led the Sabres with 12 points, while Noah Defreyne had nine. Tyler Kozak netted six, while Adam McConnell pitched in with four points. Josh McGary scored three and Nolan Kriske rounded things out with two.
 
To punch their ticket to the junior final, the Titans used spread out scoring, led by Parker Morris and Quinton Francis, who scored 13 points each to defeat the Valley Heights Bears 49-34.
 
Brian MacCormack scored 10 points, while Jacob McGivern added four and Braden Morrison netted three. Hunter Forrest, Alex Palton, and Noah Webbeach added two points.
 
While the junior and senior Sabres were eliminated from the NSSAA playoffs, their seasons aren’t over. They will host the Central Western Ontario Secondary Schools Association AA championships next week.
